want my car to sit like this.. on 17s

  1. #1
right im pretty serious on getting my car this low on 17s which are here in 2 weeks, want mine to sit the same as this.

This looks awsome, looking for info on work to do, read in some threads I need to remove all arch liners, move brake lines on the back, move bottle for screen wash, cut some bumper fixings off.

Is there anything else?,read sumwhere "say good bye to your fuel lines" ?? surely that doesnt need moving.

Also if anyone has any pics on there photo bucket of saxos on 17s fancy posting them up so i can have a gander at them??

  4. #4

im prob gonna do a trial fitting and just see whats in the way and go from there but be ideal to have a heads up on work needed

there awsome wheels perfect size for looks.

    I agree.

No offence to the owner but imo anything over 16" on a saxo just looks out of proportion to the rest of the car.

15" looks best with a nice 40mm drop

Unless its a car for looks then 15" wheels and 60mm drop.

totally disagree most 15s will handle 20000000x better then 17s but do look lost in the arch imo, i like alloys to fill the archs less tyre more alloy.

    just my 2p.

suppose if we were all the same the site would be pretty boring lol

mine will be for looks tbh i never rag it or drive hard so no problems there infact i hardly drive it full stop, just really like big wheels always have and getting bored of seeing vts rims and vtr rims..

I used to have 17s on mine and they weighed less than most 15s

they also only ever rubbed on the front on full lock

  18. #18
    My old progress thread

As it was lowered 40mm at the front and 50mm at the back. Needed to be lower imo
  19. #19
that sits pretty nicely to be fair matey nice one for the reply ill have a look and read though!

another one on 17"s, not as low as youre after so not had to shift anything and only had to trim the front arch liners
more pics in my progress thread

I had 17's on my old mk2 vtr a few years ago. It was lowered 80mm at the rear and 60 on the front. I had to remove the rear arches and cut all the metal out behind them, just leaving enough metal to bond the arches back on as i had lost all the holes for the clips. Used to only rub on the front when on full lock then. To be honest its only do able with alot of arch work to go that low. Admittedly i did change them after a year or so to 15" comp mos and it handled so much better and didnt follow the lines in the road. If you like it though mate then go for it!

Its more about inertia than overall mass though
I've found a set of race wheels in 13" diameter weighing 3kg each. Old school cool lol
  24. #24
i have a spare set of 17s in the back garden. they need a bit of a refurb, but might spray them black and stick em on my mk1 its not lowered at all so im guessing it will only need minimal work to stop rubbing on the front???

Big alloys on a little car is a big no no in my books unless they have a wide arch kit or something to blend it all in better

    i have that bonnet ftw!

I put 17's myself on my old vts and its a right fuck on tbh, if you have a haynes max power modifying book it tells you how to do it properly. Hammers, angle grinders, tin snips ect are required and it takes about half a day to do. It totally ruins the handling and as slammed as ricky's will probably rub no matter what with people in the back. Heres a few photos of mine lowered 40mm all round.

Is it that exact one? It was a one off I had built for me and I sold it to another member who smoothed it back over again!

one off mate. I asked the bodyshop to smooth a standard mk2 bonnet and put an induction bell in the front
  34. #34
can you tell me how much it would cost to have it done?

I'd say around 300 to have it done properly
  36. #36
    really?
wow more than i thought it would be
  37. #37
17" looks great but ruin the ride and the gearbox in the long run 15" are better maybe 16" max but each to thier own

to get the finish perfect and done correctly i reckon hes right 250-300

just phone around ya local bodyshops

and admitdly 17s ruin the ride but so do 15s with stretched rubber lol

    leave em on 14"s or 15"s i say !

i have 17s on my saxo, lowered 40mm front and 60mm on the back, only problems are front rub on full lock and the back i had to grind some of the bumper mounts of but was absolutely fine. will upload some pics soon but i have a thread on here but there quite old pics but they do have my 17s on.
