Hi guys i have got a feeling my gearbox input shaft bearing is shagged as its making a noise when the engine ticks over but dissapears as i put the clutch in, it pulls well through all of the gears and has no other noises. how easy is this to replace can i do this myself? i know its a gearbox out jobby, thanks Lee

I can getvhold of uprated input shaft bearings, they contain a metal cage for the balls as opposed to the standard plastic one that can melt.

Once you have the shaft out it just presses off. There's a good guide on here on how to strip the gearbox down

There is a chance its just the release bearing though.

Input shaft bearing, metal inside vs. plastic inside - just for reference if anyone searches for it:

the bearing on the fork arm which presses into the clutch pressure plate when you push the pedal down. If the plastic retaining lugs snap off then it rattles around really loud until you put your put on the clutch pedal

I got a quote of £295 plus VAT today for a recon gearbox, may aswell save a bit more and buy a vts engine with gearbox etc and have a conversion done.
