Butterfly clip in throttlebody??

I have recently read that on a VTR there is a butterfly clip to restrict the airflow?? Is this true? And would removing this make much of a difference and how would i go about it??

    Cheers in advance guys!!

Not on about the butterfly in the throttle body?

i think he means the wedge on the bottom of the butterfly its easy if you know how just make sure its level and u dont alter the circumference or you will have serious idle problems

No, the only resriction is a "lip"

I have a fair ammount of experience with the VTR TBS, i have a MK1 and a MK2 in my hands right now and i can tell you there is no "7mm spacer plate" on either lol

EDIT: A lot of info in that post is a load of crap.

there is a 7mm spacer!! but not as you know it, theres the lip as mentioned on the bottom of the tb which ppl "port out", and then when porting & polishing the body so to speak, you remove the two (quite aptley named) spacer plates off the butterfly, the two semi cirlce pieces of metal either side of the buttlerfly on its axis that give it the impression on a solid shaft runing through the butterfly.... fair does this will be a restriction but from standard mappin will do little

so basically what we are saying is.....its more hassle than its worth yeah??

It was just a thought lads so cheers for clearing it up for me!!

no mate, its not, are you competant with tools? what mods do you have?
  12. #12
at present its just standard with a K&N filter on it!! yer i am ok with tools, and i have just pretty handy mates so if i am struggling they can come to the rescue!!

any clue on how to do this then and the possible problems i may encounter?

There was a wedge on my old R plate VTR on the back of the butterfly in the throttle body. It was held on by two screws. It makes the transition from OFF THROTTLE to ON THROTTLE smoother. make town driving easier for people with poor throttle control.

I took it off, as expected throttle response seemed better and felt abit quicker over all. No tests done so might have been in my head of course. Not checked my Mk2 yet.

looks like ill have to check at the weekend and see if i can "port" it

right....sorry to bump an old thread but this got mentioned again, but this time a bit of plastic got mentioned n was made to sound very easy and quick. Just a simple undo this take this out put back together....can ANYONE shed light on this?

I'd also be interested to know more about this. Is this "clip" present on the late MK2 VTR?

well the person on that websit seems like he knows what hes talking about and restrictin the 8v model to the the tune of hyping a 16v sounds like thts something a manufacturer would do why else would we all put breather mods on our cars right?? but if there is annyone that can shed more light on this butterfly clip or annyone has done this how about a guide as this could be a gr8 little mod for peaople with cash flow restrictions

yup hes on about the spring loaded axial that the throttle butterfly plate bolts to, if you remove the butterfly your can cut away the piece of metal facing you as its not needed, its the piece behind that has the threads in it for the bolts thats important, you are effectively removing half of the axial that the plate sits on the increase air velocity, i did it on mine when i port and polish my TB , it does make a difference IMO
