diffrence between vtr and vts MPG

  1. #1
just wondering is there a major difference between vtr and vts mpg i know that vts will do less mpg but is it a noticeable difference between the too like would i be filling a vts a lot more that a vtr.

    Thanks
  2. #2
very little with normal driving, once you start to open them both up youll notice a bit of a diff but not really that much
  3. #3
going from a 1.4 8v to the vts, im skint... all my money has gone on bloody petrol!
  4. #4
can get same MPG out of my tuned 16v running silly power as i did my old stock 8v.

depends on how you drive it
  5. #5
Like already said it all depends on how you drive. I get nearly 40mpg out of my VTS where as a mate gets 30mpg out of his VTR.
All depends on your driving mate.
  6. #6
ok thanks so basically all down to how you drive the car
  7. #7
it is. i've burnt nearly half a tank in my VTR in 2 days doing 105 miles, whereas in the 1.1 it was closer to a quarter!

That's a bit harsh that is.

I get around 440 miles to a tank on my VTR, I do give it some at times, but I do drive a 55mile round trip to work so no small journeys.

Should change all filters, Oil, Fuel, Air; I saw a 40 mile difference saved when all these were changed

Feather your accelerator when going up hills as well rather than sticking your foot down, this does help

Work for a haulage firm, and have been trained how to save MPG The feathering technique is an absolute god-send, the amount of fuel you save by just feathering up a hill compared to flat foot is amazing.

And acceleration is key. Accelerating from a 30 to 60, do it in 2nd or 3rd and than block into 5th, saves more petrol than just accelerating through the gears. Our truck average 7.82MPG, this from the 6.13 we used to have, saves alot of money!

I tend to get 390-410 more often than 440, short journeys and trips to the shop kill all my MPG. Tend to use the missus car when travelling short distances.

    440 is only 44.5 MPG, 390 is 39 MPG.

42 to 44 mpg every time 2000 VTR standard wheel size, Only "mods" are air filter, back box and cleaned up the exhaust manifold casting marks.

I think if I had a VTS I would be more tempted to floor it but agree driven sensible probably not more than 6 mpg between them

But you say feathered uphill, but dont you end up slowing down, I go along motorway at 65 usually and hold it there still only get between 40-45

Generally yes, but not by much, and as soon as your on top, just accelerate back up to where you want to drive at.

    40-45MPG is very good
  16. #16
yeah but if im only getting 300-350 miles i could make it better
  17. #17
i use petrol dont know where to go with that
my litytle tips windows closed fan on low if at all stereo low coast down to junctions leave weight behind have breakfast when you get to work regular servicing tyre pressure's included mum changed her tyres and saves a bit on fuel leave your spare wheel behind to and if you car pool take the skinniest
  18. #18
also buy decent petrol and when you do fill fill it to the top that way it actually last longer as it creates a vacumm and dont get lost that wastes fuel
  19. #19
My dads old VTS was better on fuel than my VTR
  20. #20
was your dad a more careful driver though or his car was in better nick all possibilities im on finding out my mpg at the mo slight prob i love a little bit of fast road acton

if your a grandad driver you can get to scotland from kent on a full tank in a vts but if your shuma then ull get to kfc just about!

Currently 167 miles on the Trip Counter. Just under 1/4 tank used. Going for big numbers this month.

Did take a 110 mile round-trip to Southampton the weekend for a bit of shopping (for the missus, mind you)

I live four miles away from Pilton, so Glastonbury Festival is always free for me.

Haven't bought a dress yet, might have to figure out what my dress size is and get some chicken fillets so I don't look out of place, and perhaps a shave too , and that apple tree in the back garden still isn't fruiting

There are plenty of other drivers that do the 400's. And I don't drive like a blind nun on a Sunday either. Just know when and when not to floor the car. Barely ever break the speed limit, and happy to cruise on motorways at 65-75

The best I've had in my Mk1 VTR is 420 miles. I usually get more miles to a tank when I fill up using Tesco Super Unleaded than when I use the normal stuff. The pence per mile works out roughly the same. Although I've just filled up using T.S.U. which cost me £1.21 a litre so may need to work out that calculation again.
I like to do a bit of "Driving Miss Daisy" style, then every now and again I like to give it some. Travelled most of the journey from Leeds to Scunthorpe the other week at the "give it some" pace. Not big or clever but I was on a promise and it was on that tank I managed the 420 miles which worked out for me at 41.7mpg.
I've removed the spare wheel and carry a can of tyre weld and an RAC membership card. That helps reduce the weight by about 20kg (ish) which helps improve mpg. But ultimately, how you drive the car will depend on the mpg figures.
