fuck me! those are big tbh, those on your old lump? and you got any ideas on places to buy mate?
  13. #13
would be a GMC engine so john probably.

they look a far bit bigger then standard, i didnt know you could oversize that much on saxo 8v lumps, have just emailed QEP as i doubt ill have time next week to get in touch, rushed off my feet with work atm

Those ones came from GMC. There are plenty of people about who do custom valves if your looking for something specific. Originally I was just pinching parts out of other engines. The second big valve head I made had 4 old Lotus valves I was given for free. It's a right pain to fit bigger valves though. You also find the standard combustion chamber really does cover them so you have to do a lot of reworking even after you physically got them fitted to get it to flow well.

yeah i know mate watched my dad do it many times over the years, was thinking of just buying them and getting my dad to do them, hes pretty handy with virtually everything and has worked with cars for years, just getting on a bit now which is why i dont really want to bother him with it lol,

Its always worth a go as even if he messes it up a head is not worth much these days. I forgot to say on that engine they actually hit the cylinder bore so that had to be cut out around the valves. Its a old mini trick so your dad will probably already know about it. You have to be careful not to go any lower than the top piston ring at tdc if you are doing this lol

    Edit: i knew i had a photo

that looks like some quality work there mate, yeh my dad used to have hundreds of minis, can fit 3 in my gargae at the same time lol, as said hes pretty handy and it'd save me a few quid but dont really want to bother him as hes done with working on cars less he needs to now and just enjoys them instead lol, was going to give it a bash with some guidance from him but i want to get the best poss power out of my 8v to show what you can do on a relatively small budget so i may just buy one on exchange and save the experience for a super budget slag project in the future.
