1.1 Gearbox in a VTR

  1. #1
I no this is a very commonly asked question but i cnt seem to find a forum for it :/ so sorry people,
Just wondering what people think who have done it, is it worth doing?
what are the disadvantages of doing it and the advantages?]

    Thanks =]

well i have been speaking to a m8 who has done this and he said it has made his acceleration so much faster but restricted his top end to 115mph only things is that has made me think is weather the 1.1 gearbox can cope with the power of the vtr.

it'll certainly cope with the power as fowk have paired them with hi spec engines, its just a matter then of how long they'll last.

    main advantage: quicker acceleration
main disadvantage: slower top end speed

got a smaller diff than the VTR/S box.
chuck a VTS box in there mate very similair ratios to 1.1 but more likely not to shred the diff as quick

but its worth doing in most cases as most of the time its stop start acceleration around town etc rather than sitting on the motorway at 3 figure speeds all day

vts box .. wud cope with the R lump nicely n ratios r jus a lil bit longer than the S

just droped a 1.1 box in my vts and its sweeeeeeeeeet

tbh i found that a 1.5 deisel box works much better the torque goes through the roof the 1.1 box wont last as long the deisel box is strong and can cope with the strain iv got a 1.5 box on my GTi 16v engine and i think its a awful lot better cus you get the accel and top end

this what you call sharing the knowledge dan lol, im thinkin bwt gettin a 1.5 gearbox for mine once ive got brakes and ma heater matri sorted

No. OK, just no. It's longer than a VTR box, so acceleration is shit, but top speed is insane, not that a standard car would pull to that. Oh, and changing a gearbox doesn't make the engine produce more torque.

1.1 box is a good compromise IMO, and no, unless it's fucked, you won't shred the diff within a day/week/month, I know mine's fine almost 2 years on...

Advantage - Quicker acceleration, by quite a lot.
    Disadvantage - Shorter top speed, higher revs on motorways (60mph = 3000rpm, 70mph = 3500rpm, 80mph = 4000rpm), basically speed = double revs.

ive got one on my vts and the acceleration is much better.i also havent lost any top end speed.

i had a diesel box on my old vtr and it was shit.it would do nearly 110 in 3rd and over 120 in 4th. shit imo!
