VTS intermittant spark fault - please help!

    Hi all

It's about the third time I've had the Saxo on the road, and it's behaved perfectly until now, but driving to work this morning it seemed to lose power and stutter before stalling. It started fine and I drove off, only for the problem to persist, intermittantly.

It is almost certainly an electrical fault, and thus far I've got it to work so haven't yet done anythign with it - got the drive home to look forward to now! I found (after numerous near stalls on the motorway, having to change down to keep the revs up) that if I keep the throttle fully open the fault doesn't occur. it can be fine for a mile or so then do it again.

It seems to happen between around 3-4 revs on part throttle, and the power just drops away, causing the car to stutter and judder violently and the revs to fall - you can still rev it but it's slow and unresponsive to rev, and if you let the revs drop it stalls.

My first thoughts are coil pack, as I've had a few go on me in my time, with similar symptoms. However, after changing this for a new item, it is still persisting with the problem.

Because the problem is so intermittant, my mechanic friend doesn't think it will show on the diagnostic reader, so failing that for the time being I'm hoping someone will immediately recognise the problem and know what it's likely to be.

    Thank you in advance,

    Paul
