Just been down to citroen to ask if they can see if my cam belt has been tensioned too tigh as when giving it some i get a high pitch whine from thr engine. He had a little click click on his computer and calculator and told me i would have to pay £170 to get the belt checked and possibly re-tensioned! Do general garages do cam belt tensioning? I dont want to be going around with a possible belt snap on the way lol! Cheers

#2Any good garage should be able to do that tbh!
-
#3Bloody hope so. No way im paying citroen £170 for them to turn around a probably say its fine lol
-
#4£170!
not suprising tbh!
Any descent garage should be able to do this for you, at (no doubt) a cheaper price. -
#6What a rip off!
Go to your local garage -
#7Good idea mate,
most garage wont charge to diagnose the problem (possibly 20-30 quid).
And if it is that, an hours labour at most?
either way, no where near £170.
Joe
EDIT: Spelling ftl -
#11you're not meant to alter the tension of the belt after it's been fitted for a while - have read it somewhere but can't quote where yet
-
#12I would be looking at Citreon replacing the belt for £170.! lol
-
#13Hes more than likely correct. Fountain of Knowledge ^^^

#14The belt still looks brand new. How long do u think that gap is that your not suppose to tension after fitting?
-
#15I don't know tbh as I can't remember where I read it. If I did I'd post it up here.Quote:The belt still looks brand new. How long do u think that gap is that your not suppose to tension after fitting?
If a company say they can adjust the tension fine, then let them do it, and if it breaks/slips then it'll be their fault.
£170 might be for a new belt fitted at Citroen ? You definitely sure that's the price for just adjusting the tension ?! -
#16I said to the guy at reception about the noises i was getting from the engine at high revs and told him that i got told it could be that the cam belt was tensioned to tight. I then said how much would it be for you to basically give it the once over and make sure its all tensioned properly. He then told me £170Quote:I don't know tbh as I can't remember where I read it. #17Ask then what they do for that price, might be worth paying it for piece of mind.Quote:I said to the guy at reception about the noises i was getting from the engine at high revs and told him that i got told it could be that the cam belt was tensioned to tight. If you're 100% it's the cambelt then I'd be tempted to get it checked - if it breaks prematurely then it could be engine gone. -
#18Im not 100% thats the thing. I need a saxo expert to sit in my car with me really lol and try and diganose the problem =/

#19Might be worth booking it into get it diagnosed then before spending £170 on getting the cambelt tension checked.Quote:Im not 100% thats the thing. I need a saxo expert to sit in my car with me really lol and try and diganose the problem =/
When was the cambelt last changed?
Can you hear it from a certain side of the engine? Drivers or passenger side?
