Changing bulb in heated rear window switch

  1. #1
    Hi all,

I had a problem with the heated rear window switch not lighting up, so I went to the local breakers and got another one. No biggie you may think - it only cost a fiver...only this one won't light up either. I know there may be an underlying problem, but I thought I'd give it a go and try and change the bulb before I go investigating.

I thought there was a how-to guide on here but I can't find it. Can someone help please?

    I have a Saxo 1.1 Spree, T plate (1999).

    Thanks

Before taking the switch apart check your fuses.

Are you sure it's not the relay?
Are you sure you're checking this with the engine running? The heated rear window only comes on with the engine running.

You say all the fuses are in order which is good. Have you checked the ones in the engine bay. The HRW also has a fuse in the engine bay.

If all this is ok then check it like this:

Start the engine and make sure the headlights are off
Press the switch, the switch's lamp should glow BRIGHT orange.
Press the switch again the lamp should go out.
Turn the headlamps on, the switch's lamp should glow DIM orange.
Press the switch, the switch's lamp should glow BRIGHT orange.

If you're only getting a dim lamp then I think it's just the realy. About £8 quid from GSF or local motor factors.

It's above the fuses in the passenger fuse box. It will have 25A and a little circuit printed on it. Take it with you and make sure the circuit is the same on the one you replace it with. Usually they are yellow and made by cartier although this can vary.
