Speedo and Rev Counter not working

  1. #1
    Hi

Big problem , i have a saxo 1.1 lx and the speedo and rev counter have stopped working. The Speedo does not move at all and the rev counter is stuck at 10,000 rpm even when the engine is turned off. Anyone have any ideas on what this may be and how i go about fixing it. Its my first car

    Thanks guys

1st check the plugs are pushed in properly at the back of the unit,if this doesn`t solve it go on ebay & get a 2nd hand unit roughly £25 if its a mk1.

check connections, if still not working the clocks are broken, unfortunatly a very common problem with saxo's

    not easy for a noob,

    -turn steering wheel 90 deg
-Two torxs on the back side of the steering wheel - undo
    - airbag will come away and just pull the airbag plug off
    - Undo big torq for steering wheel (don't undo it all the way off- then tap the steering wheel hard towards you and remove)
    - Undo two torx underneath the lower steering colomn cover. - pull off
    - Top steering colomn cover will just pop off
    - undo airbag module (3 torxs (will be obious when you remove steering wheel)
    - release airbag module remember the self cancelling stalk,
    - Undo 3 torq to remove the Indicator stalks (do not undo wires just enough to get to the torxs for the Clocks surround)
    - Remove two torxs for clocks surround behind the Indicator stalk
    - Remove two torxs from the roof of the clocks surround - remove surround
    - undo the 3 torxs for the clocks and jiggle out, be carefull not to scratch the face
    - DONE
Just the reverse to put back in.

Plus disconnect the battery & wait for 10mins before doing it that way you won`t activate the air bag.

Just remedied mine 03 VTR - no speedo, rev counter at 500 temp and fuel gauges off their stops. Disconnected battery and left it for a while, though the gauges stayed the same, re connected battery and alls well again

this problem happened to mine last night. i disconnected the battery..left it for half hour...reconnected battery and everything works again!
so i would recommend trying this before removing the steering wheel etc

Hi ive had a saimilar problem - the rev couner, speedo, fuel gauge and temperature gauge do not work but the liquid crystal display works showing the milage, a small spanner symbol and the engine, and airbag lights are on. - took the clocks out followin the instructions on here (pretty good if i say so myself) and checked the connections but everythin looked fine. rekon best to run a diagnostics on it? (and fuses are fine)

Lol, thanks i have done them a few times before so i am used to doing it. diagnostics won't really do much. but if you do as above said disconnect battery for 30 mins or so and it still does in then its probably the clocks broken

with mine it did the same the Digital display worked fine but basically nothing else.
