Xsara VTS engine conversion

  1. #1
Has anyone here put a xsara VTS 2.0 16v in a saxo? How much work does it involve? I was thinking of putting the 1.6 16v in my vtr but if the 2.0 is the same amount of work I'd rather do that.
  2. #2
loads of work, was guna do it with the vts lump, mounts, gear linkages, drive shafts thats as far as i got and thought f*ck that
  3. #3
you will lost the powet steering and weight distribution will be even worse, because the engine is heavier, rather put turbo in your vtr,or buy vts...

So the saxo gearbox doesn't fit? I wouldn't mind changing the linkage, mounts etc as long as there's no cutting n welding

saxo vts is tried and tested, simple conversion really.
xsara vts is a totally different engine that was never designed for a saxo - can be done but you must have DEEP pockets.

    +1

plus if you do get the conversion done then the entire handling of the saxo, which is pretty good, will be comprimised

mate go for the gti-6 engine if ya wanna 2litre been done pure times before there a uy on 106 owners who did it himself but it did need mods to make it fit like cutting pieces off and welding new bits on ill have a look for the link
and before any goes on about the weight the gti-6 engines made of alloy so is lighter than a vts engine

GTI6 and Xsara VTS engine are the same. Xsara VTS engine uses a 5speed gearbox.

dowt it is lighter either but as many have said really not worth it mite as well get a gti-6

    Mi 16 is alloy
xsara vts /gti6 is cast iron .

waste of time and effort to fit usch a poor performing 2.0 16v engine
if you want a project and don,t mind remaking everything fit a proper 2.0 engine not the xu thing its junk
like honda type r engine + box ,will be same amount of work but that is alloy and 40_bhp more tostart with and with revving so high will be better suited to a lght weight car than a torquey low revving unit like the renault clio unit.
or go whole hog and fit the 3.0 v6 cit /pug unit.
a man on saxo forum has two fitted in a c2 -one front + one in the back.
but if you reaaly want some work get a passat engine + trans axle and stick it in the back --they make 400+ with a little boost ,and as it would be a true mid engined car , and will lay all the power down and not break anything

Thanks guys. Well I don't have very deep pockets so I think I'll have to settle for the 1.6 for now. The type r engine sounds good tho any idea how much everything would cost roughly?

A lot mate, may aswell just get a VTS engine and turbo it. Would be lighter, cheaper and you could quite easily see 200bhp+

Driving a diesel is like being gay - it’s more accepted than it used to be… but it’s still wrong.

    That's the best saying ever!

I'm slowly realising speed = big bucks. I want a celica gt4 next but the insurance is a killer

    Is your car a diesel?
If it is you'll need to change all the fuel system as well.
