Steering pulling to one side ~ Trackrod end?

  1. #1
Ever since I bought my Saxo It's pulled to the left a bit, It didn't bother me too much so never got It sorted. I looked at the Trackrod End Ball joint? And on one side the bush was on the wonk and on the other side It sat completely flat?

I looked at my mates Saxo and both of His were on the wonk! Obviously one of mine are wrong as they should both me the same but which ones broken?
I'm guessing they're supposed to sit flat?

try getting the wheel alignment done, as for the track rod end, just twist it back as it will move on the ball joint

Track rod end does not have a bush, are you thinkning of something else? Bottom suspention arm, or anti roll bar perhaps?

Often pulling can be fixed by setting tyre pressures correctly. There is a sticker on drivers side door shut with pressures. 1 bar=14.5psi bythe way.

Can you post a photo of this bush you are looking at mate?

This Is with the Steering set straight..
It pulls to the right and make clunking noises Is I steer fairly hard, doesn't have to be going fast though.

Thats the track rod end (someone correct me if i'm wrong). From that pic it looks like it could be a problem with the steering rack tho.

May need a new track rod end and the get your tracking (wheel alignment) done

Hi mate, the shape of your track rod end is not really relevent in our scenario, as long as it is the correct lengh (ie tracked right).
I have known play in the bottom ball joint to cause your problems. Also the shock absorber inner piston/shaft to move inside the damper body thus altering camber angle and making a rattle/clunk noise.
Please also check bottom arm rear bushes (bolts accressable from under carpet in footwell) - if bush is dead you will have play, vague turn in and drifting when trying to go in a straight line.
No point getting tracking done until everything else is in good order.
BTW about the rack itself, you may have a bit of play if your on high milage so don't rule that out for now.

Both mine and my mates is exactly the same, 1 dodgy one fine. But my tracking is definatly out as my tyre wear is off centre. When im driving along and let go of the wheel while its dead centre the car turns gradually to the right. I presume this is the problem your having, so id suggest getting the tracking done.

Correct, but it's not going to be possible to track it up accurately if other components are worn causing movement that should not be there.

sorry for the bump and irrelevence but im having a bit of problem myself. trying to look on sax-p for an answer and i cant. whilst trying to remove the bolt for the tracking rod end, it all of a sudden seemed to pop out and now the screw spins with the bolt. how would i get the bolt off as im planning on changing the strut?

i would replace that track rod end first that bent and then do tracking, cause if you do tracking now and leave the track rod end, when you replace it, you tracking be out again i think so i try getting the rod first, like said first problem first

If the balljoint's turning while your trying to undo the nut, your best just chopping it off. But do it at the nut side as its tapered, and try to avoid damaging the hub carrier! With alot of cars you can usually put a jack under the balljoint to apply a little pressure while your undoing the nut. The saxo balljoint sits on top of the hub arm though so it's not an option. Check to see if the thread on the balljoint has a torx fitting in the end to hold it while turning. They can sometimes be really tight though.
