If a set of steelies have 185/55/15 tyres on would 195/45/15 fit on them?
Cheers

Yep
EDIT: If it adds peace of mind, basically going from 185 to 195 tyres means that the width of the tyre 195 tyre (measured in mm from sidewall to sidewall) is 10mm greater.
Hope this helps

But if 185 is covering the whole wheel (i.e. not stretched) then where does the extra 10mm sit on?

To be honest I'm not a major expert, but as I'm aware, it just means the profile of the width of the tyre is simply 10 mm wider. (not to be confused with the profile from tread to wheel)
