Induction kit question. (not your standard which is best question)

  1. #1
I was thinking about a BMC CDA enclosed induction kit and have heard good things about them when they have a good cold air feed.
Was just wondering if anyone is running or has run a CDA filter with the use of a Raceland carbon fibre scoop (filterless) as the cold air feed to the CDA filter.
If so what was the effect(s) and does anyone else agree this may be a good idea?

dont think there would be enough room to fit all that in.

if your a dab handy at fiberglassing, you could cundger something up.

Well if not a raceland im sure i would be able to find a smaller CF scoop somewhere. I generally hear BMC are s**t without a good air feed so i need to devise something..

Who'v you been talking to? lol. Alot of the lads on here have no cold air feed attatched to them at all! Personally i got some hosing and found a nice hole infront of the powersteering pump.

Just becouse alot of lads have no air feed dosent mean you dont need one. RR has proven and common sense will tell you the BMC are not good without a cold air feed.

As for the filters, i doubt theres much difference tbh. Just make an air feed such as a tumble dryer pipe from the lower bumper grill up to the BMC. Or do it using better quality products.

As above. Or just connect some ducting to where the normal one is fed from

Well those lads with there BMC filters are wasting all their cash as with no cold air feed their will be a definate drop in power due to lack of air and no doubt any air that does go through the filter without a cold air feed will be warm and then your engine will suffer from heat soak.
Since you're been cocky to me i give you the same... go find out the basics of how breathiong modifications work before going off on one

Gotta love some of the banter on this site some people need to lighten up

And basics of breathing mods? Why do you think i said that personally i went for a hole infront of the power steering pump? Its low down so it gets the cooler air and its got a grill infront of it to prevent large objects getting sucked up. I do believe they are the basics...

Pyro, just use a standard airbox and make your own cold air feed, its cheaper and will work just as well.

I have never seen a worth while power increase on the dyno when a CDA has been fitted. Even if it has got a bit of flexi pipe pointing out the front of the bumper. In fact most shiney anodised carbon air filters appear to be a waste of time. Maybe its just the cars ive tested it on but generally they appear to be a waste of money.

One of my customers who runs a well know shock absorber company fitted one of these CDA filters to his BMW race car. It gave him 2 more HP at 5900. The rev limiter is at 6200. But it LOST him 10-15 HP from 2500-5700. The standard air box was better. I did test one of these on a 106gti but can remember the exact outcome. what ever it was it wasnt an improvment. And not worth the outlay! The old K&N 57i induction kits seem to work ok.
Always back to back test a standard air box with an uprated one. Most dyno centre's will let you do this on a power run session as long as you ask first.

Finally a good word for the K&N 57i after people chatting on and on about "heatsoak" etc

What about the Gen2? Heard that's quite good

silicone caf using original intake and airbox with panel filter ftw tbh

Think i'll plan on using standard box with uprated filter and cold air feed, as there is no downside and it can be done cheaper than CDA by a lot

Iv'e heard Gen2's are marginally better for performance but dont produce as much induction roar.
