Window Tinting

  1. #1
I'm thinking of getting my windows tinted - Anybody got any ideas on the best way, or any pics to show me what the different colour grades actually look like?

#1 - buy a cheap roll of tint and D.I.Y?
    #2 - buy 'pre-cut' tinting and D.I.Y?
#3 - get a pro to do it?

...i guess most people would say #3, how much would i looking at paying a pro approximately for just the rear windows?

I bought a roll of tint and pre cut a newspaper sheet to the same size as the window, then copied it onto the film and have a perfect sized film.If you need to save money its the best way.

Hmm dpends really on your DIY skills, its not that complicated if you have a vague idea what your doing and the skills to match. And to get it done professionally can cost a hell of a lot...

id rather get a pro to do it mate if your not confident enough

Cool, thanks for the replies guys!

I think i could do it myself, or rather i have a brother who is very good with these sorts of things... the tint rolls only cost £12 for 3 metres on ebay which is rather tempting - so i'll be interested to see any pics of DIY jobs (hinckley!)

I've seen some REALLY bad DIY jobs though, where the tint goes all bubbly and doesn't fit right - and i understand its a bitch to get off...

I'm only after the back windows woodsy, so hopefully wouldnt be paying a pro £150!

Whoops, sorry there so big,the odd dots on them are where it had been raining.

Oh and i havent done the rear on mine because i was told that you would have to cut it to fit between each of the rear heater lines, didnt know whether it was true but couldnt be bothered with the hassle.

Your windows look good mate, thanks for taking the pics for me...nice saxo btw, oh and the beemer as well!

Why do you have to leave a gap around the edges where the fadey-bits are? And do you really have to cut individual strips for the rear window to avoid all the heater wires? That would be annoying...

I guess that is dark smoke or limo black right? Have you ever been pulled over for them being too dark?

Sorry about all the questions lol

Cheers, still a work in progress.I didnt leave a gap around em, i went over them but the film doesnt sit flush cos the fadey bits are indented. I used a heat gun to make it less obvious as that helped the film to mould around the holes but you want to do that whilst the film is about dried on.Its dark smoke and ive never been pulled over, been told the legal % of light that can be stopped is whatever on the back two side windows and 70% on the rear but i think the rear looks slightly darker now cos the two side windows let in less light.I dont know for sure about the rear window cuttings though, soz i cudnt be more help.
