Removing wheel weights?

  1. #1
What will the adverse reaction of this be?
Or can you get them relocated so you can't see them?
  2. #2
removing them will affect the balance of the wheel, best bet is go to local tyre shop and get them put were u cant see them
  3. #3
So can them move them to the inside of the wheel?
  4. #4
Yeah if you have alloys, you can get stick on weights. Doesn't work with steelies as far as I'm aware but you will need to go to a tyre place
  5. #5
yes they can move them to the inside of the wheel
  6. #6
it depends on the wheel mate, some alloy wheels cant be balanced very good with weights in the inside.

    Cheers for the replies people!
They are rallye steels I'll be running, and dying to refurb them so would I be okay to prize them off, then refurb them and take them to be balanced after?

ill balance them so you cant see them
but wee bit of a distance between us.

can be done though bloke. just when you get them balanced ask for them to be balanced STATIC!

Yeah just a whole country between us basically! Haha cheers for the thought though mate!
What's the difference between static and say the other methods?

to balance a steel, you set the J, and spin it up...the computer figures out the high and low spot in the wheel, tells you what size weight to put on and where, on both inside and outside edge and that balances it out... spin it up again, and it come back saying ok.

for an alloy, you measure the outside lip of the ally then the inside, computer works out the distance, you again set teh J of the wheel, spin it up and it tells you again where to put the weights! inside the wheel on both inner and outer lip.

when you static it, you do either of them, but then it works out a central point of high or low centre of gravity! put a weight there and it will level it out again!

tbh you wont notice if its not 100%
it can b out upto 10/15 grams before you will notice it, and for it to be annoyingly noticeable, over 100Grams!

dont static balance them, static balance was designed for motorcycle wheels.

A shot in the dark is you've got VTR wheels and they've got some lumpy horrible looking weights on the the face of the rim that look like they are clipped onto the edge of wheel?

get a garage to remove them and put stick on weights on the rim.

    bang on weights:

    stick on weights

once they get a bit dirty you'll never notice them.

They're steelies so they look garbage on them!
Since you know about balancing Tonts, is is okay for me to prize these weights off that I have on now?

There's no tyres on atm so no need to worry about that, I'm just gonna get heat gun on them first and warm the glue up.

if your using them on the car then hmm not really, or you dont really want to go above 50mph, or the steering wheel will start to wang!

you can take them off though, a pair of pliers will do the trick, get it on the hole on top of the weight and under the weight and just lift up.
    simples.
or ill take a weight hammer / remover from work and fax it to you some how . . .
