Important! : Heaters keep blowing the fuse

    got a Mk1 VTR

heaters keep blowing the fuse and taking the power steering out
it happened, i switched the fuse, power steering was fine, flicked the heaters on, and the fuse blew straight away

only had the car a day, so i don't know much about it, what can i do to save taking it to a mechanic? don't want to have to pay for a new ignition or whatever in the first week of owning it, but the guy switched the fuse and told me everything was okay, and it worked fine untill i tried the heater...

i've had a read through and there are people with similar problems, but i just wanted something specific
    cheers

You have narrowed the fault down to the heater blower motor/it's wiring/resistor pack. I do not know where the resistor pack is on the Saxo (someone else help here please). It sound like you have a short ciruit with it hence its pulling loads of current and popping the fuse. I would look to change that first.

PS have you got a haynes manual - prob find its location in there.

cheers for the reply, i'll get down to halfords and buy a haynes manual later, and a few spare fuses...
i guess i'll have to follow the wiring and look for a short, doesn't sound too fun.

right, it's definatly the blowers, i switched the fuse, p/s worked fine, turned the blowers on, and the fuse burnt.
so i'll have to work on it, not too keen on sending it to a garage to get ripped off just yet...
