Random Engine Knock

  1. #1
Right fellow Engine Addicts I have a new problem.

My Headgasket is bad I know this I have new one ready to be fitted I just need the time, but while I'm burining a small amount of oil (White Smoke) and have a small oil leak from the left side if you look head on at the car, From around the gasket, Just this morning when I started it cold there was a knocking noise coming from around my cam belt earea, might be from the rocker cover, Now I've checked the belt and it's not loose, And was only changed 6 months ago. The knocking goes after about 30seconds then you don't hear it again until you let it get cold again.

It was 100% fine until I change my Driveshafts on Sunday, I know this has nothing to do with the Engine, just gearbox but when I started it to move it to change them it was fine, I left it there over night, started it this morning and the knocking is there, coinsidence? I have no idea but if anyone knows what this is let me know please. Head's coming off soon anyways but I have to drive it for another 3 or so days so if it'll cause more damage I'd like to know lol, thanks friends

i would be reluctant to use does your temp gauge go up high ? it will just be blocking everyhting up mite be restricing good flow of oil hope headgasket change goes well

Well no strange thing is the water isn't going down now, it went down about 5mm then it's sitting just above the min mark. Temp is the same as always, sits at roughly 1/4 maybe a bit higher, I've been waiting for it to overheat due to this gasket problem, I only use it because I have no other choice because of work

The noise could be piston slap, mine does it slightly from stone cold in this weather. If the noise gets louder as you apply power then possible big end/crank bearing issues are ahoy! Be easier to fit 2nd hand motor in that scenario.

Nah it ain't piston slap luckly, It Turned out to be Hydrolocking due to the water getting into the Cylinder, now it's 100% locked lol.

And I'll just do anything to keep this engine running for now until I've built my new motor, I'm half way through building a new one from scratch to put in it, Can't be having no 2nd hand ones now can we
