Important! : black gunk in coolant

   hi, just bought a saxo 1.1 for my mrs, all seemed ok, checked water tonight and its brown with black gunk on top, (oil i think), dont know when it was changed last, when i run the car all the water disappears from bottle , could it be serious, thanks

   Yup Headgasket gone I think. Check the Oil filler cap-if its like mayonnaise (white gunk) then most likely HG. Cost around £250 to be done properly as an estimate

   oil cap fine, cant understand it , is there simple test i can do , bearing in mind i not very good with cars

   Take it to a garage for a sniff test maybe. You might be best to fit a 2nd hand motor cost wise as well. Maybe time for an upgrade to 1.4 etc?

   easy test run car with shit loads of water in the radiator. run for 10 mins and have a look. if you can smell burning coolant and loads of smoke from zorst its defo the hg. would defo give it a attempt yourself before giving it to garage get your self a haynes manual and get stuck in while your there may as well do the timing belt and waterpump
