Rite ive read all the other threads on here about these but none of them can answer whats wrong with mine. I fitted on to my mk2 silvertop vtr at the weekend and cant get my car to run write. Its idl'e ok, just sounds like its cammed. If i slowly rev the engine up it revs rite round, but if i try to rev it fast it bogs down and back fires. Anybody any ideas what this could be??
Rallye inlet help
-
#1
-
#2sounds like wiring is wrong somewere
-
#3map sensor ?
-
#4ive done exactly what it says on the how to thread though. would a missing injector seal cause a problem like this?
-
#5the map sensor worked fine on the standard inlet though
-
#6you'll need an injector seal or fuel will leak out !
plus there won't be an air tight seal in the inlet (unless its the top injector seal) -
#7its the seal that goes into the head thats missing.
-
#8ive fitted a new injector seal but still not joy.ive changed the map sensor and the idle control valve aswell. when its ticking over its chucking black smoke out and smells dead rich. anyone help me with this???
-
#9have you got early type silver or older silvertop
-
#10ignor that as you wouldnt even get it on late silvertop doh, its usually down to the idle valve a guy on hear made a plate and used origonal idle valve off of vtr and worked perfect
-
#11that might have been me dorsetsaxo although i made an adapter plate to run standard tps sensor, the origional idle control valve is easy to put on there
bainesy do you have any pics of th inlet you could post up
and how have you set it up? are you using th standard rallye icv or modified inlet to use vtr icv?
also how did you wire up the plug for tps? did you solder it or use bullet connectors?
cause when i fit my inlet, i had 2 of my wires mixed up on the tps sensor, and it caused my car to rev by its self and sounded like it was cammed, well it is cammed anyway, bu made the idle even worse if you get me, cause used bullet connectors at first so i had the option to swith wires round if need be
so i would say double check your wiring on tps sensor that may solve your problem, if its not that it may be an air leak
how did you seal the inletup between the head and inlet? did you use sealer/silicone or did you use a ptfe gasket?
other than these probs i cant think of any other reasons
but like i said get a few picsup and a list of what youve done and how when you fitted it, and either me or someone else may be able to help you a bit more
hope that helps

#12yeah it was bud as have read this eight to nine times now as gonna be doing this mod soon and dont like doing anything till its very claer to me and you explination is perfect, have you seen much of a gain scince done
-
#13ahh right yer i tried that and to read upon what im doing till i know exacty what to do, but stuff still went wrong though lol
the best thing to do is read up on the things tht can go wrong tbh so you can think of what to avoid and mostly what to do if you do get that perticular problem
erm as for gains, it was hard for me to say tbh as my car is cammed so it stll runs not the best anyway if you get me
but what i felt after i fitted it was my idle was a bit smoother and not quite as lumpy, it felt alot more resonsive and picked up well, the main change though is the induction noise my god it sounds awsome lol. the induction noise is actually kind of lke a scaled own version of throttle bodies imo its got a real deep throaty noise to it, sounds insane lol
erm but i had a problem too, with it being cammed my mpg wasnt the best anyway on standard inlet, but i found my mpg dropped alot when fitting the inlet, i still managed to get about 38mpg on average with standard inlet and cammed engine, but with s1 inlet it is now about 30mpg lol but the biggest problem was i also found cause there was more air going in even though mpg went down it still wasnt fueling enough and was underfueling which showed on the graph on the rolling road and it causd me a slight missfire about 3k, i then put a bigger fpr on and ent then injectors off to be ultrasonically cleaned and the missfire went and graph improved alot
now cause your engine isnt cammed i dont know whethe the inlet will effect you fueling much, but it might just be a case i got the prob cause my engine is cammed that it sent my fueling doolaly
hope that helps -
#14i will get some pics up later on mate. ive used the vtr idle control valve and modified the inlet to fit it. I used an airline fitting which is a good fit.
ive soldered the wires for the tps. I connected them like so, A on citreon plug to left hand pin and tps, b to the middle and c the the right. Does this sound correct?
I used gasket paste for between the inket and the head. All the car shops i rang couldn't decide which gasket i needed. -
#15here are the pics mate. do you have any pics of the plate that you made for the standard vtr tps. I can only think that a dodgy sensor is causing this so will try making a plate if you have any pics. Hope you can help, cheers

#16anyone????
