just fitted 16" 195/45 wheels, few questions

basically i have just put some 16 inch alloys with 195/45 tyres on my saxo 1.1 which has NOT been lowered.

they fit on fine, and dont touch the arches, however I do have a few worries.

If i have passengers in the back, are they likely to scrape?

    and

I used hubcentric spacers, bolted to the hub, then wheels bolted to the spacer. Are these likely to come loose at all?

With a 1.1 yeh I would of thought they would scrape when you went over bumps. When I used to have my 16" TSW Evo R wheels on my 1.1, I used to go over bumps with people in the back and the arch used to take a chuck out of the front of the rim when it scraped on it.

If you put a load of balast in the boot you can check if you need to trim anything back to make room because it can do alot of damage when it scrapes over bumps.

    Not sure about the spacers..

You could reduce the scrubbage by fitting 195/40 tyres

On the back arches have you folded back/removed the lip?

heres what needs doing as i had 195/40/16s on my old 1.1

you WILL need new tyres if you lower it to stop scrubbing

then the lip in the arch needs to come off
i did this with a grinder it can be folded but i literally took it all out to be safe
so off comes the plastic trim (its clipped on) and rear bumper (6 bolts) and out with the power tools

the part i removed from the (right) arch

and a pic of the (left) arch to show what i took out

hammerite the edge and a bit of tigerseal to hold the plastic trim on as i ground out half its mounting points at the back and you get the finished product
i still had a little scrubbing on the rear bumper under hard driving but a bit of a file to the bumper to clear the plastic and it was fine

thats lowered 55mm on the rear but its stripped so sat about 30mm
