    from what I understand some are 90 bhp and some 98 bhp?

    how can I tell what mine is?

    dont ask me where the cat is as I have no idea lol (not sure if this is how you tell?)

    cheers

    3 plug going into the ecu = 98
    1 plug ecu = 90
  3. #3
    Im sure the MK1's are 90 BHP and the MK2's are 98 BHP, if thats where your getting mixed up?
  4. #4
    Early MK2 were 90 bhp also - think the change over was W/X reg to 98. Anyway forget all that the easiest way is to just look at how many plugs are going into your ecu.

    mine is a Y plate?

    not sure where I would find said ecu? lol
  6. #6
    Sorry about that, never knew the MK2's were both 90bh and 98bh!

    This thread will help you alot i'd imagine mate: http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=87916

    thanks mate, still not sure though lol

    mine looks like the 3rd pic and was registered in may 2001, pretty sure the dip stick is the same as in pic 2 though, same colour and I think same position in the engine bay?

    strange lol

    also not sure where the ecu is, Im guessing its the box on the far left when looking at the pics though?

    X reg onwards is 98bhp. W reg backwards is 90bhp.
  10. #10
    X is a crossover plate, can be either or.

    Y onwards is definately 98.

    Tbh it makes no difference anyway, anyone who tells you otherwise is lying

    the easiest way is by the rocker cover.
    Silver = 90BHP
    Black = 98BHP

    no mate ive got a silver top 90bhp and my bro had a mk2 silver top which was only 90 bhp, its very easy look at the ecu and see if there are 3 or 1 plugs on it or get it on a jack and have a look underneath for the cat

    Easy check plugs
    as said tho and I suspect that all blacktops are 90 and silvers are 98
    unsure if this is right or not??

    seems to be alot of conflicting info in this thread lol

    I havent checked to see how many plugs my ecu has yet but will do tomorrow, all I know so far is that its a Y plate, registered in May 2001, has a silver top and that it feels like its a 98 bhp model lol

    Will check the ecu tomorrow, that way Ill know for sure. Pretty good really, thought I had a 90 bhp car and its gained 8 bhp overnight lol

    It's pretty obvious if it is a 98bhp engine, there's a huge cylinder in the manifold!
