Need help!! Failed on MOT

  1. #1
I have had a MOT test today and failed. The following problems were found:
    - 1. Offside rear parking brake recording little or no effort [ 3.7.A.7a]
    - 2. Nearside rear radius arm has excessive play in a pin/bush [2.4.G.3]
    - 3. Parking brake efficiency below requirements [ 3.7.A.9/10]
Now, I'm pretty sure the braking problem is the calliper that has seized. But not 100% sure of that...Then had no idea of the rear radius arm has excessive play in a pin/bush, not even sure what it is really! Have a rough idea of it..
ATM i am running low on cash, so i was wondering if i would be able to repair this myself with some guide or some help!!

    Thanks for any help!!

excessive play, id imagine your bearings are on there way out, as i found out last week after having to get a new beam as my bearins decided that they had it and was klonking everywhere, the best person to speak to about your beam is speak to one of the guys who own IM axles and they recently done my rear beam and done a spot on job

if it was the parking brake that it failed on but it passed the standard brake test then it wont be a seized caliper it will definitely be a slack or snapped handbrake cable. Jack the car up and check the cables are not snapped at the caliper as they just clip onto the back of them. if not feel behind the exhaust pipe near the centre silencer and you should be able to locate the adjustment bracket, check cable and if ok tighten up the offending cable. However dont do this until you have replaced the rear beam as the whole rear braking system will be disturbed during this

replace the hand brake cables as they are more than likely siezed, its a simple job to do on a vtr/vts as they are discs and not drums. if ya need any more help on how to do the job, pm me ya moby number and i will ring ya. As for the radius arm bush/pin again its not a hard job to do, maybe you shoud buy a Haynes manual lol
    regards Hally
