Horrible Noises

  1. #1
Ive got a mk 2 saxo vtr on a "02" plate everything works fine apart from when ive been driving for over 20 mins and as soon as i put my clutch down it makes some really weird noise! its almost a humming noise but quite loud! it also happens when im doing arouing 40mph and take both feet off all pedals and the same noise happens.
Just wondering if anyone new what this noise was and could give me any help? Nice 1

hiya, im not an expert, im just takig from my experiance,

i had the exact same problem, it was ok in 1-2 gear but soon as i went 3 or (above 40mph) i had the same noise,

i'm having to change my gearbox & clutch.

but it could be something not so extreame like low on gearbox oil.
im sure you will get someone with more experiance to give u better idea.

This is what i was going to write, if you can fit it your self its all good but if your like me then its going to be expensive!

So it happens with the clutch pedal down AND at 40 with the clutch pedal not down.

I would be looking at driveshaft/gearbox/Wheel bearing issues. Maybe get a local garage to have a look buddy.

Im 99% sure thats driveshaft matey! You press down on the accelerator or sometimes glide along and it will hum away! Changed my passenger driveshaft and it went! Turned out my CV boot had come off and shit was everywhere (Grit, grease, all sorts of grime)

    Hope this helps!!

Cv joint or the thurst bearing

I think its my drive shaft as the cv boot has sprayed all its grease out.

How much would it be for a garage to replace a drive shaft inc labour?

The metal belt holding the gaitor could have just snapped. Check that before buying a whole new driveshaft.

Mine done the same, spraying grease everywhere. Put some grease in it, Put a jubilee clip on it, tighten it and now its fine.

I done my driveshaft myself on my westcoast, traded in the old one for refurb so it cost me £40 for the new one (including cv joint) and about an hours work...

No problem, well cost me 42£ for a new driveshaft (gave mine back in exchange)

And then got sparco_tom on here to fit it, took him 10 mins!
