Pot hole / Airbag

  1. #1
Hey guys, 1st post here, im sure this is the right section but if not "mods" please feel free to move.

Anyhow, I was kinda hoping my first post would be Pics in the newbie section, Im not so lucky however.

Today joining the Dual carriage way I hit a pothole/rock and ended up blowing my tyre, denting my alloy and my Driver Seat Airbag blowing out.

What im asking is how much a replacement would be ? ive got the leather mkII 02 VTS interior, i believe its the original optional extra. Would it be cheaper just to get a replacement seat? Also is the fact this airbag has blown and the light on a MOT failure? (may wait out till i fix it if not)

Thanks to anyone who replys, mebbe ill get me some pics sorted when ive solved this little headache.

hello mate shame to hear the bad news after joining as far as i know it is an mot failure for airbag light can be sorted though by replacing the airbag ecu behind the dash. and yeah a new seat would probably be chaeper you could get the one seat for pretty cheap.

Ah thats good to hear. Tho does that mean to reset I have to fix the airbag? or can it be reset and not fixed? Guess ill start putting the feelers out for a new seat lol. Im guessing going premium to see sellers would be a start

Going back out tomoz to check if it was pothole/rock, if its a pothole I guess I can try sending the bill to the council.

do you mean you have the 106 gti interior, saxos didnt come with leather even as an extra i dont think

No Idea I was told by the last owner (its had 4 i believe) that he was told it was a £1100 optional extra, i know the Door has a leather pattern to its plastic and also some leather inserts. It could of course be a 106 interior, ill guess ill have to learn some search fuu and find some pics of a 106 leather interior.

Get some pics up bud and we can tell you what interior it is. On the other side does ur airba light flash now? or is it constantly on?

yeah they did have leather as an option, was bloody expensive like thats why its so rare.

if you wanted a cheap fix, can you not just stick the plastic airbag casing back on and just solder a 2 ohm resistor (i think) to the wire under the driver seat coming out the carpet. this way it 'thinks' its connected to a side airbag which isnt even there. this will knock out the airbag light, unless that right what someone said that you need a new airbag ecu

Also, soz to be a dick, but u will struggle to buy a single leather seat on its own, alot of ppl sell the sets and they dont tend to split

before you buy anything mate go back to the pot hole take a photo and bill the local authority for the cost of your alloy, tyre and airbag.

Air bag light is now constantly on. The car now stinks infact the smoke that thing kicked out when it went off was more of a hazard than the blown tyre, hell least u can try and manuever a flatty...can do bugger all when u cant see FA lol.

I'll try and get some pics of the seat now, Its dark outside so they wont be gr8. The Car itself used to belong to a EX/present member of this website, least it has the sticker on teh rear driverside window.

U would best off getting ur seat fixed up as it will be hard to get a single seat as said before. Get some pics of the damage so the seat in the day light.

Infact yes your probably right. Ill deffo try and and claim of the council. Will take a ganders and some pics of where it happened using tape measure etc to give as much detail as poss, pics of alloy/seat.

Will also go to Citroen Dealer to get a quote on fixing the airbag / info on legality or cheaper ways of fixing (resistor idea mentioned early / replacing ECU)

I got 5 months to sort the Airbag so can wait out on the council. The Alloy well I think its just the ones that came as standard, pretty sure it should be easy to pick up if so. Seems most people swap them for better ones.

i would claim the s**t out of the council

Mate if you claim off council then do it. Alloys an all. VTS alloys go for good money tbh so get them sorted to.

Just buy a 2nd hand steering wheel off ebay & get the car on a diagnostics machine to reset the ecu this will clear the fault. My airbag light has been on for 2 yrs and never fails the mot.

i think his side airbag in the seat went of, not the steerig wheel airbag, right

airbag light doesn't matter, my mums was flashing through the mot and that wasnt a problem, not part of the mot yet
