when i was going to work today i had to be quite hard on the brakes at one stage cus of a cat but when i did that the left back wheel skidded. i thought it was ment to have abs. if it did y would it have locked? stones on the road or cus it b abs doesnt work on that wheel anymore??? is that even possible

what car do you have? vts?

Maybe somebody took the bulb out of the dash that indicates the ABS has failed.

When you turn the ignition to second stage does the ABS light come up on the dash and then go off when u start the car?
  3. #3
ok nah its a 1.1 desire. its been realy well looked after by a lady from new and is mint with full service history. erm i cant remember if there is a light im sure there is but none stay on
  4. #4
could it have just been gravel on the road that caused it to skid??
  5. #5
Are you sure its got ABS?? I think it was an optional extra on all but the VTS.

What year is it? The ABS light on Mk2 saxos (dont know bout Mk1) is a yellow/orange color with a car skiding in the middle.

its a 2002 saxo desire mk2. i think it is most likely to be the fact there was a bit of gravel on the road but what do u think

No thats unlikely because thats the whole point of ABS.

Even in the snow if i planted my Pedal to the floor it would try its damn hardest not to skid.

With ABS no wheel should lock up for more than a split second.

To be honest two possibly scenarios

    1) Your car has no ABS (Most likely as very few people took the optional ABS on the 1.1.
    2) Your ABS is screwed and somebody took the bulb out of the dash to stop the light coming on.

ok well im not to sure really then im sure all the lights work as its been so wel looked after might not have abs then
  10. #10
No ABS i expect. I have not come across any 1.1s with ABS.
  11. #11
ok how can i find out then?
  12. #12
if that light exists that i said about on the dash
  13. #13
ok if i dont have the light then i dnt have abs yeh?
  14. #14
if you wanna find out if you have abs look at your master cylender
if it has 4 lines you dont have abs
2 lines you do have abs
  15. #15
yep and if u want to be double sure have a look under the bonnet on right hand side where brake lines come out of the master cyclinder (white brake fluid reservoir) and if there is two brake lines it has ABS. If there are 4 it doesnt have ABS.

Take a pic and post here if your still struggling to find out.

  22. #22

Nope out the side of the master cylinder. If its two lines they will come out the right hand side of the metal cylinder under the fluid reservoir as you look from the front of the car.

Broken ABS. Usually sensor related and they are an absolute pain to change!! I ended up having to smash one of my rear ones out to replace it and lube up the new one when refitting.
  26. #26
hmm ok i need a proper look really so from the fluid reservior there will either be 2 pipes or 4 pipes

Yes but they dont come from the reservoir they come from the master cylinder. The reservoir sits on top of the master cylinder.
  28. #28
okey dokey will i know stright away tho? are they easy to see
  29. #29
    Yes very easy to see.
  30. #30
okay fingers crossed there are 4 pipes. dont fancy havin abs problems.
  31. #31
do the pipes start as 4 and then do into 2?
  32. #32
sorry not very clear what i ment then. they come out the master cylinder 4 pipes then go into a round thing and 2 pipes come out. is that right?
  33. #33
ok i have found that i have 4 pipes so that means i dont have abs which in a way is a good thing
