am i right in thinking the half way line is where the needle should sit at when at optimum running temperature?

its a mk1 vtr btw with the guage on the left side

correct, the neddle should go no more than just over the half way line. Fan kicks in at the line

both my vtr's sit jst at the half way line when at normal running temp then the fan comes in when it goes slightly over the line

not entirely true, some cars run hotter, some colder e.g. my 306 ran at 1/4 which was 70 degs but my saxo will run between 1/2 and 3/4's. Anything outside the cold block and overheating is considered, in most cases, normal operating temp

its just that i swapped my needles and dials about recently and the temp is over reading a little. the needle was placed as far down as it could be (a little black pin is stopping it from going further down) and its reading a little over 3/4 for running temp

any suggestions? i was thinking of removing the black pin so that i can place the needle lower as the defualt position

mines sits about 3/4 but my fan it rigged to a switch so i just put it on if sat in abit of traffic ect.. but evan before my car is started in sits just under 1/4 some reason lol think thats why it sits 3/4 but really is 2/4 but my gauge must be faulty
