Important! : Saxo Advice

  1. #1
Well, Im currently looking in the market for buying a Saxo VTR, I currently have been running a 1.4 Clio and was wondering some things.

What are the main problems i am likely to come across?
What experience have you had with them?
Ive noticed that the pedals are close together, Is this a big problem for a wider footed driver? As the Clio pedals are quite spaced out.
    Whats the fuel consumption like?
Are the modifications a good wide range for the car?

    And the most important question!

Is it fun to drive?! As im planning on making my next car into a track goer, So would a VTR be acceptable? Obviously i can turbo it or change to vts ect. But that wont be for a while.

    Thanks in advance,

Vtr would be a great car! There are obviosly some common faults with all saxos and I think there maybe a page on this forum that states the major ones. Vtr would make a good " track slag" with the right mods and set up

the pedals are a tad close together but tu get used to it, I'm a size 11 shoe and never had a prob.

Can't say to much about the vtr drive as I don't have one (vts) but if it's anything like my vts then it's the best handling road car I've driven.

    Hope this helps

Vtr is a great little car.
No uncommon problems really, the driveshafts might be a bit underspecced for the power (90 or 98bhp) but they cost a lot less than £100 each and straightforward to replace.
Good mpg (40-45), handling is responsive and sharp

I have a furio, same difference apart from engine, brakes and gearbox I believe.

Great little car, fun, easy to drive, easy to work on....and parts are cheapppp.

Thanks for the feedback, Ive been looking into a VTR and a EK9, Swaying more to the VTR at the minute due to fundings ect. And i just really want to get a good knowledge of what i would be dealing with. Im a mechanic so i can fit most things myself, so that shouldnt be much of a problem.

For a VTS your going from insurance group 7 to 14, probably loosing a lot of MPG, and over a 2001+ VTR only gaining 21 HP, bit better trim and probably ABS if the VTR didnt have it.

    Go with the VTR
