s1 box

im doing a vts conversion soon and heard alot of people saying the s1 box is a good box for the vts why?? and are they easy to get hold of
  2. #2
they have a higher FD so effectively mean you'll go through the gears quicker, but will have a lower top speed.

They are pretty rare tbh. most will need a minor rebuild or some parts replacing due to their age and condition.

Expect to pay around £200+ for a box

Will also not help with your MPG

hmm i still like the sound of this though its all about the 0-60 rarley do over a hundred why because i dont fancy losing my licence and it struggles to get there

If your planning on using it as a daily, dont get the S1 box.

ive got a 1.4xsi box (which is very similar to an s1) and im going 100 miles to £20, and im 8v down

it well worth it, and is one of the best things you will ever do , its just a case of doing 60mph on the motorways to save the fuel lol

i had a rallye box in mine! OMG i want another one! just do it.... why moddify a car if your worrried about mpg??

got an s1 box on my furio, yeah i no furio blah blah blah... it is mega short and drinks petrol - however stays at high revs and pulls lovely - it's not good sitting 70mph @ 4k revs!! going rate for one is £250+ and its luck of draw if it need rebuild or is an actual s1 box.

I have one and it's the best mod i've done tbh. Getting around 30mpg with one and that's mainly town driving. It's my daily driver and I don't find it a pain at all tbh. It can get a bit annoying on the motorway but as long as you stick to 65/70 it's fine.

I've got an s1 box with quaife diff and its mental! 0-60 timed at 5.3 at york raceway so if u want a good 0-60 do it! Motorways are a bit of a nightmare but its worth it when your racing about.

    didnt know york did 0-60?

thow shall be getting an s1 box

Wheres the best place to get an S1 box and how can you tell if its geniue?
  17. #17
you will find a code which will tell you if its genuine .

try looking on the rallyeregister forum , they are always breaking engine/boxes.

i had mine rebuilt by mankee

    love it !

Most of the time yeah, but not always. Even if the code suggests it's an original Rallye box, you have to be careful as the pinion shaft and crown wheel may not be original S1 ones. They could have been replaced with VTR/S ones if the box had been reconditioned and this will just make the box a VTR/S box. People know that these boxes are on high demand and therefore worth alot so there are dodgy sellers out there. Alternatively you could do what I did and buy the S1 Rallye Pinion Shaft and Crown wheel and fit these to your current gearbox. This will turn your gearbox into a S1 Rallye Box. Saying that though, those are probably even harder to come across than the S1 boxes themselves!

Yeh right hand lane 0-60, left hand lane gives a 60ft time.

The box's are really rare and your chances of getting one which doesnt need a rebuild of somekind are pretty slim. So it'l be an expensive route to go.

I got one 'in great condition' which clearly needed a rebuild as soon as I fitted and drove it. Then once it was in the diff blew up a few months later! so safest bet's xsi box, but if a decent looking rallye box comes up for sale I'd go for it, they transform your car!

Is an XSi box worth doing? How similar are they to an S1 box, are they a good compromise? Are they a direct fit? Sorry for the questions lol.

    Cheers.

Definately worth doing as it's miles better that the vts box. Both box's are direct fit. xsi box makes it fast, rallye box makes it mental.
