The spare wheel is not checked as part of an MOT. Whether it is there or not. It can be bald, flat or missing.

The cage must be safely fixed though

No you don't need a spare wheel to pass your MOT however if you have one in a cage it must be safe and securely attached in order to pass.

Corsa VXR's don't have a spare tyre. i was aware that if you have a spare tyre it has to be road legal but if you don't have one its fine. A can of that filler stuff should sort it out.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The spare tyre is NOT part of the Mot. It can be in any state whether it is present or not.

relly ? i think its more laziness of checking it as i have been under the impression if you have one has to be road legal

    Yes, really.

Road tyres only are part of an MOT. Tyres fitted to spare wheels are not tested.

They can check them all they like and can advise you on it but they cannot fail you.

if there is a spare tyre fitted it has to be road legal ie tread depth etc.

if there is no spare you cannot fail.

loads of cars come as standard with no spare tyre.

the condition and presence of a spare tyre/wheel is not checked on an MOT although if its externally mounted it has to be secure. can be bald, flat, different size and it wont fail your cars MOT.

The spare tyre is NOT part of the Mot.

did it used to be 'if you have one it has to be legal' or did some douche just start a wild rumour lol?
  19. #19
i always assumed it was 'if present must be road legal'

i got an advisory for no spare. But it will not fail if you dont have one
