Need Help With Some Possible Problems

  1. #1
i think i have a (prob few) problem with my car, but im not sure exactly what it is so i was wodnering if you lot could shed any light on whats going on?

    1) as you all know had a small incident in my car the other week coming out of bluewater. had the car checked afterwards and the bloke laser alligned the wheels and re did my tracking. turned out i needed a new wheel which i brought, but since then occasionally when going down the motorway i get a vibration sound coming thorugh the car for a few seconds then going away (i also noticed that on sat when up in southend when driving around, the car doesnt seem to happy when turning left when travelling about 40/50mph - might be the same thing, not sure). was wondering whether it might be a case of i have bent the tracking rod when i crashed? this wasnt checked by the garage as from how i described it drove he didnt think it was bent. am i right in saying i have bent it?

    2) another problem that seems to have appeared sicne the accident is that occasionally whilst driving down the motorway, if my car gets above 5000rpm (about 5200ish rpm) the car seems to jerk and stop accelerating. the rest of the time though, the car is fine, will accelerate past 5000rpm without a problem. also, when coming home from work last night driving through where i live (after just leaving the motorway) my engine randomly cut out on me for no apparent reason. continued to roll down the road and managed to get it going again and was fine for the rest of the journey home. has anyone got any ideas as to why either of these 2 things would happen? is my engine screwed or is it something that can be fixed?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It could well be that you have bent the wishbone, If it was the track rod end, he wouldn't have been able to do the tracking within cue, Balancing only stops your wheels from vibrating... i suggest you take it to another garage, get a free tracking check, and see if this guy has ripped you off, or infact it is the wishbone, it doesnt need to be totally bent to be twisted..
    thats my idea anyway..

    thanks guys for your input..

bot13:- the tyres on the front wheels are exactly the same. i took the old tyre from the buckled wheel and used it again on the new wheel. both tyre pressures are the same aswell.

westie:- the tracking and balancing got done when the car got fixed, but this was before the new wheel got put on so will have to get this looked at aswell.

keefy:- if i have bent/twisted the wishbone, is this an expensive job to sort out? the guy wouldnt have ripped me off as it is the bloke that always sorts out my car when it has problems, plus he is the bloke my dad has used for donkeys years with all of our cars in our family. never had any problems with him yet.

one of my friends works for a local citroen garage and on friday i am gonna take it down there for him to haev a look at, see if he can see what is wrong with it at all.

im going with the idea that the wishbone or one of the ball joints has failed, as teh car has been tracked the wheels have been balanced, plus you said you recently had an accident with it. As for the engine problems does the car ever have any porblems idling atall, do you know if it has single point injection or multi point injection. Im assuming its a 1124cc engine or is it a vtr?

as far as i no, i am sure its a single point injection, and is the 1124cc engine!

would the wishbone or ball joint be expensiveto replace?

a hole new wishbones only 45 quid on ebay, n if you confident they a piece of piss to change u jus gotta take the carpet up in ure car a bit undo the 2 nuts then a further nut under car, one thru the balljoint then it ul cum off, work from the ball joint inwards though when undoing them, did you have a new tyre fitted or did he use the old tyre off the buckled wheel? tyre wall mite be breaking down or bead snapped etc form the inpact? have you got a spare put that on see if it fix's it

we used the tyre off of the buckled wheel as it seemed fine. had the tyre put onto the new wheel by a tyre fitter and he didnt say anything about the tyre being damaged or anything (didnt actually ask him but i would have thought he would have said something if it was faulty?? )
the only other wheels i have got are my standard steelie rims.
