Which Chip!!

  1. #1
i'm after abit of power outta my vtr some people have said get a chip but i don't no wat chip 2 get which is best and how much power do they add? someone help me out please!!!
  2. #2
they dont do anything, tell us how much you have to spend and we can tell you what to do.
  3. #3
i dunno so y make a chip if it dont do nothin? i dont really wanna de cat and get a diff manifold and get the head sorted cuz it dont make it no faster
  4. #4
so you beleive that a manifold, exhaust system and headwork wouldnt do anything but you beleive a "chip" would?

I suggest you have a read through this engine forum and then consider your budget and options
  5. #5
because divvys like you buy them expecting them to give x amount of bhp and the company puts X amount of your non refundable money in their pocket, that way you can go around to all your mates saying you cars chipped whilst the rest of us laugh and point at you. On a more serious note, answer my first question and supply details of your car and we can help, if you dont well...

    get an ebay resistor.

    Can Anyone Help Me ?
  11. #11
Chips are lame. They are just a buzz word everyone bangs on about.

    2bob,

Look at a full cat-back exhaust system(scorpion, magnex etc), an enclosed air filter(green, bmc, simota), a 4 branch manifold, de-cat pipe and MAYBE a remap if it runs like shit.

I don't know anything about nitrous really, use a dry system if anything. Then your bottom end does not need to be bullit proof.
  12. #12
dry systems are for diesels and tractors, you need a wet system, anything less isnt worth it.
  13. #13
Well you get small gains with a dry system. E.G 75bhp
  14. #14
BTW Ratty, any more thoughts to my quiet straight though?
  15. #15
Well i got a piper cross viper kit, so just got to ge the other's sorted thanks for the help

oh and would i need to upgrade anything on the engine or car if i want nos or will it be fine to run ???

    Cheers 2Bob
  17. #17
You could run a standard bottom end with a dry system.
But if you use it all the time, well my experience with Drag Racing a Bike, we blew holes in the pistons and melted the cylinder head all the time, but that was a wet system and shoving about 300bhp through it.
  18. #18
lol so what would be a safe thing to do if i wanted it upgrade the pistons and anything els ?????
  19. #19
Yeah pistons and rings. But I think you should be alright. I would personally ask someone who uses it on a Saxo or contact a Specialist mate. My Dad installs it on our bikes, with a progressive controller, I only press the button!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. #20
you need to run a wet system, to match the nos with the correct amount of fuel, also use a controller to get your money's worth. upgrade to metal headgasket and run cooler spark plugs.
  21. #21
Oh and if your serious I would enquire about getting the bottom end blueprinted, balanced and upgrading the con-rods aswell. But as I said, i am no expert!

But some people on here may think I am chatting shit.

lol on a vtr? not unless you're running methanol. as long as you're sensible i.e. 25 or 50 bhp jets then you'll be fine with changing plugs and headgasket.
  24. #24
lol blueprint an engine for nos, i know of a saxo vts running 75bhp on standard everything apart from plugs. A wet system as said allows you to meter the nos with fuel making it safe, like anything as long as you dont run lean you will be fine, same goes with ign timing, sometimes you have to knock a few degrees off but if its setup correct you will be fine, if you blew a piston you were probably using crap fuel or too much nos without enough fuel or the incorrect spark plugs,.

With reference to the exhaust, is it standard manifold, cat then backbox?
  25. #25
how loud is the car with the backbox off?
  26. #26
Hi Folks. Carrying on with the general engine tuning theme, I wanna get my ECU re-mapped to get more power (I have a 2000 VTR). Will this be expensive. will it be worthwhile, and is it worth doing before other mods or should I look at other mods beforehand?
  27. #27
whats point in re-mapping an ecu to a standard car when its been mapped to do its job in the first place
  28. #28
All my experiences with Nitrous is on a Drag Bike.
A different ball game. I say leave nitrous to Drag Racing where it belongs.

As with exhaust, yes standard manifold, cat, and then backbox.
  29. #29
so you have just removed the middle silencer? if so try removing the cat, but like I said if you take the backbox and start the car up, that will tell you roughly how much the back box is muffling the sound.

    what are cooler spark plugs?.
  31. #31
plugs which are designed to run at a higher temp
  32. #32
cheers...can you give me some examples of these?.
  33. #33
GMC use NGK BCR8ES (think that's right) ones on their charger conversions. 'charging/nitrous increases heat in the combustion chamber, cooler grade plugs conduct heat away from the sparking tip and help prevent detonation and stop the plugs melting.
  34. #34
    nice!. cheers
