Saxo accelerates on its own

    Hi all,

I own a W reg 1.0 Saxo and recently its been doing weird things,

Since I bought it in december it has had an issue where when it is cold the auto choke or whatever it is that revs my engine higher for a bit on a morning has been turning off too early it seems and causing my car to be sluggish when I pull away from the first few junctions I got to, half a mile down the road and it ran absolutely fine.

Thepast few days though it has been doing the same but then now it revs itself up over 3500 and keeps climbing when i dip the clutch, I always stop it before it gets higher than that but it probably will, I dont think its a sticky accel cable but what do i know? nothing really.

When it climbss it isnt superfast but fast enough for me to wanna let the clutch bite to stop it,

    Any ideas?

    accerlates on its own?
    sure you dont have a toyota . . .

the choke/ plus running in the first paragraph sounds fine tbh.
    could be idle controle valve?

its an odd one to me, thats a high rev !
hoepfully someone can help you out!

Thanks for replying, it feels like while im driving I neednt bother using accelerator cause it wants to do it itself for me, all I need do is brake, it doesnt pull away or scare me cause its a 1.0 and very very slow.

i have prety much the same proble with the choke and being sluggish while its cold but not the revs you wanna get that looked at mate

haha sounds handy if u ask me mayb ur throttle cable is sticking?? as for the choke cutting out to early u mite hav a faulty temp gauge or sender unit thats is giving false readings

If this is any help, the seecond part of my journey today it didnt do it, car acted normally.

Stephen kings Christine. mite be fuel injector system

I hope its nothing expensive, car was only 500 quid.

Had the exact same problem pal, the throttle cable had snapped and someone DIY'd it them self, anyway it was sticking in the rubber run, that reduced the revs but still kept a pulsing in the revs, mine was just a MAF sensor, the choke and sluggishness sounds like a sticky/dodgey could be something silly like plugs maybe?

it sounds like you need a new single point injection unit £25 from a scrap yard just make sure they are the same otherwise you will have to rewire it

i had this on my car and it was the green engine temp sensor, have a look at this FAQ me and my bro made

    Thanks all,

I checked Jungle Jims thread and have now ordered the green engine coolant temperature sensor from my local citroen dealer 12.** + VAT its gonna arrive on saturday, the thing is the picture in your thread jim showing where it is doesnt show for me, any chance someone can tell me where it is on the engine, im a total engine no no-nothing but I am gonna attempt this swapover.

Ill post back on saturday after the job is complete andupdate if it worked.

Just a thought I have been having today about this temperature sensor ive ordered, well if the one on the car is faulty would it really make my engine want to rev itself way up to and maybe(but i never let it) over 3500 revs?

Sounds like you have the cruise control button stuck in.

Yes it would. Thats the sign of the green temp sensor if it revs up to there etc..

Thanks for the reply, ill definately change it then, there is a lot of corrosion around the green temp sensor, ill post back when I have changed it.

I had this problem in my 1.1i and i gave it to my machanic for the day he took it all apart flushed the injection system through the feul wash and bobs ya uncle he's fixed it !! befor that i had it connected to the diagnosics and it came up with nothing the best thing you can do is clean out the injecters red ex should do it ! but alot of the stuff !! lol

if the cars revving itself even once its warmed up and the chokes off then it could be just somthing simple like its drawing air, which happens when a breather or vacuum pipe has for example a small hole or tear in it.. happened to my vtr and all it was was a small tear in the breather pipe

haha mine does this in second gear it can drive itself and i can stick my feet out the window and it will drive itself at the same speed lol cool lil trick

Sounds like the ICV (idle control valve) to me. Take it off and give it a clean with some carb cleaner mate.
  21. #21
Second the above, the ICv is a stepper motor which could be stuck in one position and not closing, give it a good clean as stated above

Well I changed the green coolant temp sensor and also noticed there was a tear in the foil breather pipe, repositioned it so the hole wasnt as obtrusive, so far so good, the engine runs great now, doesnt nearly cut out anymore on a morning while warming up and the autoclutch seems to be working perfectly.

Can that sensor really be the culprit to all this?

Thanks for the advice anyway, if anyone does have similar problem to what mine was then i would definately recommend changing the green coolant engine temperature sensor.
