Erm what carpet are you on about??
  3. #3
i think he means going out and buying normal floor carpet to put in his car. I'm not sure if it work but surly you just take the carpet out the car and draw round it onto the new carpet?

yes i ment normal carpet but i reilise it would have to be thin as possable

    Shag pile ftw =]

Dont know how easy it would be to get the normal carpet to go around the contours like the footwells and around the gear stick.

it would be mint though eh

anyideas on fitting ect would be a massive help

it would be a little baggy in some places around the middle/gear stick areas and sides. can ask carpet right how to fit them lol

you could go to your local flooring place and see if they can help. i do a bit of work at my local carpet shop and im sure they would suggest things to you so worth a try at your local one. even if they can only suggest the best carpet for the job it would help.

depends what carpet u want i suppose, if your were just gonna cover the original in say acoustic carpet it would be easy, prob the same as recovering it in material. but as for carpet carpet like in a house would be way to thick to mould round the contours and also when wet feet get in will hold the water and eventually stick of mouldy water.

and remove the interiour light and replace with chandeleer or lamp shade. and a small table or sideboard inbetween the seats wouldn;t harm the style either

mate you could just buy the carpet you want in your car and use glue spray and stick the carpet to the orignal carpet that came with the car! but he easyer and will look better if you take the carpet out the car first lol

or just make a template and then cut it out of the new carpet mate, get the right carpet and it would look mint!

    DO IT!!

This isnt as a stupid an idea as it sounds i reckon. Like said above the biggest issue u will have is to get it to fit around the edges and shapes of the actual car. However if you took out the original carpet, as its alot stiffer you could glue it to the new carpet and cut around the excess so you basically have the right shape and also the stiffness of the original carpet to reinforce the new one (if that makes sense). Then you could fit it alot easier (with correct holes made etc). Like saxovtsdriver said basically. Only 3 issues you might have with this:
    1) You would need to hem or sew some sort of band around the edges of the carpet to stop it from fraying anf unravelling.
    2) Carpet would (like mentioned) absorb any water and muck from shoes etc, causing it to look shitty and smell bad
    3) Would probably need reglueing after a while and alot of tlc.

If you buy bathroom carpet most of it is designed to take lots of water and dry quickly. As for contouring it years ago a mate of mine did his mini van in normal carpet and used a steamer to get it to go into shape. It wasn't perfect but looked better than the rest of the car.
