my mk2 vts has been making a strange noise for a couple of weeks now, and tonite it died on me. the battery light was flickering on and off, (mainly on) steering kept going stiff etc. checked my alternator belt and its not very tight like it used to be. what would cause this to happen? do i need to have the tensioner replaced and the roller thing, cheers. any help is appreciated.

#5The belt should be tensioned properly, but as an approx guide, you should not be able to twist it by 90degrees.
Whilst under tension, I dont think any of the pulley/adjutment cmponents should be moveable. Sounds like the fixing bolts have come loose and youve lost belt tension... or a pulley is damaged. -
#6Tighten up the tensioner and see what happens -- if that fails whack a new one on, only a couple of quid but a bitch to get to lol
