Spark Plugs

    Hi all,

I am having a problem it seems a lot of people with Saxo's.
The car would stall on me if it was not warm and the revs were very low and then they would rev really high on their own.. Long story short someone said clean the ICV well my dad did this and it actually made it worst and when I turned the car back on it reved to over 35 immediately, anyway we sorted this out by turning the key back and forth.

But the problem still happens and now my fuel consumption has increased, a full tank doesnt last anywhere near as long now. so my dad now thinks it is my spark plugs. I get very emotional that my car stalls in the middle of the road. Anyway long story short.
mysaxo is y reg 1.2standard saxo does anyone know which spark plugs I may need to buy and how much they might be.

Also could the problem be anything else.

(Another question last year on my MOT the Lamba senor readings very near failing, does that mean it might fail this year and what is this?)

Thank you for your help all.

    Change the lambda first.
    Its in the exhaust system.
A faulty öne of these will cause excesive fuel consumption.
Any car spares place will stock the plugs and be able to tell you which you want.
Ngk plugs are imo the best make on the market.a set of four should cost between 10 and 15 pounds.
Dont get drawn in to paying loads more for multi electrode ones.

Lambda sensor defo for the fuel consumption buddy..

When cleaning the idle control valve mate you need to disconnect the negative battery terminal clean the valve then put it back and connect the battery this will then reset the ecu and your car should then idle proper.. I had the exact same high revs just with a clean and no ecu reset.. So done the reset and my car idles no problem. Worth a shot i reckon

And as says above ^ NGK plugs mate seem to run best for everyone who uses them and they will be about 10 quid from a motor factors

    Thank you for replys.

Maybe I will suggest the Lamba to my dad as well. Are these car specific or will a motospare place sell it. I reckon it might be worth changing the spark plugs as well as it cant hurt.

I have done 10,000 miles in the car since I brought it but we are not sure the last time they were changed, if only 10-15 pound then might as well give these a shot as well.

Thank you, also for the ICV info might try this also.

Thank you, hopefully I can shortly go back to loving driving my car again

Change lambda, that'll be your fuel consumption being excessively high. The car will have been running rich so change the spark plugs too.

If the problem is still there, and you say this only happens when the car is cold? Then I would suspect the coil pack is at fault. They are a common fault on saxos.

They let in moisture, which causes it to misfire and give a dodgy idle. Especially when the car is cold. They often dry up and can sort themselves out as the car warms up.

Then there's always the possibilty that the icv is knackered and needs to be replaced. Or map sensor needs cleaning/replacing. A leak on the inlet somewhere....

Does your engine management light ever come on when it cuts out or idles funny?

i have the same problem going to change mine today and to answer mr_p yeah my management light comes on when i idle's funny mostly first thing in morning what could that be the lambda sensor's you think????

    Thanks

Seeing as your light comes on, get a diagnostic check done and see what fault codes are found. It could be a number of things, like I mentioned above. By getting a check done you'll avoid throwing money at parts you don't need.
