Cammed or not? (Pics)

how can you tell if the cars been cammed or not? Heres my cams.

  2. #2
should be letters and numbers stamped on

also if its been remapped then it will rev to at least 7

normal 98 octane in will have the car idling very iratically, well if its not been mapped

Didn't know that remaps lift the rev limiter?

lumpy tick over would be the main sign

That's what i mean, so if it's standard or remapped it will rev to at least 7k? That's where my confusion is?.

No, a remap dosent mean your rev limit will be raised. Its totally up to you and the person mapping where you rev limit is set. You could have it lowered if you want.

Some poeple that rebuild their engines with bodies etc have the rev limiter lowered to say 3.5k for 500 miles etc.

Ahhh, thankyou for the answer So what would a safe limiter be on mine?

    Cutz
  18. #18
Depends where your car is making it's power. If it's still gaining power when it hits the limiter then it could do with being raised, if it's dropping off power just before, then it's fine.

Youll just gain from 1less gear change, no real advantage unless you do quarter miles. Max on a standard bottom end, as theyre quite strong is supposidly 8k or 9k, cant remeber now.

1.4 XSI and Rallyes are 8valve and they have rev limit at 7250. Would be better than the 6250, but without putting too much strain on.

Peak power is usually at about 5900-6200ish, but a remap could move the power band.

peak power on a standard vts is 6.6k!

with cams it will be more like 7ish!
