Boot Swap!

  1. #1
Going to go for a boot swap with a mate to save the hassle of spoiler changing, just because i want his VTS spoiler and he wrote his car off.

Anyone can give me a few instructions on removing boots and re-doin em?

Got a MK2 VTR '00, a link or something to a guide would be nice

    Cheers.

errmm its harder than you think because of the wiring its fiddly, wouldn't advise it tbh i would just buy a spoiler and fit it to your tailgate.

yeh there plugs apart from the washer jet pipe, there all just annoying to get to, also to thread the new ones through.
Took me about an hour to swap a tail gate over

Well there are plugs to the wiper motor etc. but thats not the problem the problem is getting the loom back through the new tailgate, and then of course the latch and shut lines need adjusting.

just beat me to it, yeah there so frustrating to get the loom through a small hole and up to the wiper motor etc. i nearly went insane! in the end i stuck a lump of metal on the plug and put a magnetic rod down to pick it up.

I'll be taking the rear-wiped off so i don't need the motor for the wiper or the wiring for it, all i'd need is the 3rd brake light working

I would just cut the wires and rejoin them with crimps and wrap them in tape, probably the quickest and easiest way.

Not the best way though. do the job properly if not don't do it at all.

i soldered my wires together then wrapped them in tape. and the washer jet line you can pull right through, unplug, plug the new one in and push it back through, took me 20 mins

i am swapping my boot lid over at the weekend, i done a search for a guide, and this thread come up, i know its an old one, just got a couple of questions, do i need any special tools for this, and can it be done by yourself, or will i need a bit of help holding the boot lid ect, im doing it at my mums about a 100 miles from where i live so want to take all the rite tools with me, am only really bothered about having the number plate lights and brake light working at the mo, will sort the rest when i get home

ps is it easy enough to pop the lid from the inside, mines damaged and wont open

It's easy to do just a pain in the ass and very fiddly with the wiring looms and you'll have to switch your lock over too

if i dont swap the locks over at the moment, will i be able to get the central locking working???
