PAS Pipe Leaking

  1. #1
Well i have had an absolute mare of a day today,

I was driving to blue water today which is probably about 50 miles from me when all of a sudden my power steering stopped working

I pulled over and had a look and where the pipe screws into one of the parts fluid was sperting out of it, my car is lowered 50mm and when it was lowered the PAS was bent out of the way i think, but im thinking maybe not enough?

Main thing is i have driven it about 80 miles without the power steering working and was wondering if that would of caused any damage? and also what sort of price am i looking at for a new pipe?

I have a 2002 VTR if it makes any difference.

    Cheers

Happened to my mate, he unplugged his pump and kept driving it till he could replace the pipe. Worked fine once he replaced the pipe.

I will have to unplug it i think, but i can't find a replacement anywhere, anyone got any ideas? i don't really want to go to citreon as they will bend me over.

i had to get a new pipe . . .depending which one, i paid 75 for the one on the left and 15 for the one on the right, from citroen!
    its an all day job!

The one thats gone is as you look at the engine bay its in the far left of it.

An all day job really? I thought it was a case of bolt on bolt of? Or im guessing there is alot more to it.

And tbh i don't really want to be paying £75 i might have to be looking at a bodge job lol.

Exactly the same happend on my furio, the track rod had eaten it's way through it and fluid was pissing out. I think you can solve the problem by getting a mk1 pipe fitted or just find a cheap mk2 pipe on here and make sure it well out of the way of the track rod

I've just had a little search and read and a few people seem to think that he MK1 pipe will clear it, is that a deffinate answer?

Also is the pipe all one section from the pump or can i just get that part?

i sell pipes in pairs for £30 inc postage
  9. #9
In pairs, im guessing thats for both sides? Do you not just sell the part that has split? And im guessing thats second hand?
  10. #10
its for a pair of second hand pipes, the one from the pump to the rack and the low pressure return from the rack back to the pump

Right i am going to attempt to change the pipe tomorrow i do have some mechanical knowledge, Just a few questions,

Was just wondering am i going to fail big time?

What is involved when replacing, like what bits have to be removed, Looking at it it looks like the inlet has to come of to get down the back?

    Are any specialist tools involved?

And for the fluid is it a case of filling to the line and rocking the steering wheel and it will bleed itself?

    Thanks

take your time and remember where any fixing brackets go, make sure the spanners a good fit on the pipes where they go into the rack, not a whole lot of room to play in there!!
  17. #17
Does anything have to be removed to get to the pipes?
  18. #18
    airbox has to come off
