help, i just dont know what is wrong

    hi all im new to this site, been up half the night trying to find out what is wrong with my saxo vtr, i only bought it a few days ago and since purching it (privert sale) my fuel consumion has gone rediculas 24miles to 10pounds!!!!!
    the car isnt ideling right either and running to the sound of brrr brrrr brrrr brrrr. my boyfriend was going to fix it as he is a macanic but we have spilt (gladfully) he never did say wha maybe wrong with it.
    please any help would be gratefull, i have wanted this car for so long now i cant bear to drive it!!!!

    Has it been serviced recently? Was the timing belt changed?

    What state are the spark plugs in. Could be a dodgy lambda causing it to run rich.

    im going to services it today, the spark plugs do have black thick dust stuff if you get what i mean lol. dont know about the timing belt as the car came with know history, the car has now lost power and the fumes are really stonger, when im in third gear the car wont go past 3.5revs it just makes a hissing sound.

    Change spark plugs & lambda sensor. Sounds like your lambda has gone to me which has caused it to run rich.

    That would be the black stuff all over your spark plugs

    Give it a good full service. Check the inlet manifold for any holes are gaps at any joints.

    Get a new cambelt on asap if you dont know when it was done last.

    I might also be worth checking all of the pipes/hoses from the petrol tank as well for any leaks especially the connector behind the inlet on the bulk head( If you look in the pic you'll see 2 faint red circles were they are under the bonnet).

    thanks guys, the lambd sensor is changed and am going the do the spark plugs to, was going to do the oil change but i have noisy tappets and need to do these before i do the oil change as it would be silly to change the oil first. i will also check the fuel lines too.

    Do you have any shite in your header tank or any creamy substance/ emulsified oil in you oil filler cap? or using water?

    Hope not but could be head gasket?

    what is your header tank? sorry i am learning as i go along. lol. the car seems to be running better and im getting 37 mpg now! instead of 11 lol. my car now wont rev over 3 and a half thousand revs and i dont have a clue what is going on. it just make a phe noise when i get to 3 and a half thousand revs, does anyone know why iit is doing this?

    maybe vacuum pipe is disconnected? what does anyone else think

    when you set your tappets make sure engines been run for a bit and is warm, couldnt mine to stop tappeting for ages, it was ebcause I was setting them cold...

    its where you put your coolant in. As one of the other guys said id check all hoses are ok laso make sure no splits etc.

    I thought 3K revs was the ECU in protection mode?

    Tried disconnecting the battery overnight and resetting the ECU?
