gearbox bearing?

hi i took my car to citroen and they said my gearbox bearing is noisy

how much would it be to have it replaced?

got quoted £360 for a new refurbed gearbox and clutch at cleckheaton gearboxes

would it be cheaper to do this???

    thanks

They will go for ages with noisy bearings, if you have not noticed it yourself then it can't be that bad. Leave it for now, maybe put a bit aside each month and get another one in a year or so. It won't hurt to change the gearbox oil as well if you rin the mood.

    ^^^^^^ exactly true

Also is it defintly a gearbox bearing as a faulty clutch can fool you into thinking its a gearbox.

Could be clutch release bearing, does then noise go away when you put your foot on the clutch? If so the bearings arent that expensive and its only gearbox out job to change which is pretty easy, well depending how mechanically minded you are!

when the clutch is in it doesnt make the noise but when driving it makes its its sort or like two cogs like that click click click click that gets faster witht the engine most noise when you drop down a gear etc

but spoke to ricky p and am going to see him on thurs so im sure he will put his finger on it

When you are accelerating? Like a thud thud thud noise? I have this issue, and it is my driveshaft/s worn, they click on full lock lock as well. Been doin this over a year now, gotta change them when weather warms up!

Also you mention when clutch pressed:
When stationary clutch pedal NOT pressed you may hear a rattle from the gearbox, this is input shaft bearings. When you press clutch pedal you seperate gearbox from engine so it stops rotating the input shaft hence the rattle stops. This will get louder and louder as time goes on - change box when it is unacceptably loud.

My car is doing this, anyone know anymore on this.I'm not sure if it's the clutch release bearing or the gearbox..,sounds like the cogs clicking off eachother.
