Revving to around 2.5-3k on its own?!?!

   One start up my car has just decided towant to rev at around 2.5k, then drop and go back up then drop etc etc. Im thinking the most common and going for either ICV or TPS!
   
   Anyone shed any light into this? Also when car does idle i can hear like a secondry sucking type noise, believed to be common for faulty TPS?
   
   This is on my cammed vts with hydra standalone so poss a issue there?!

   having this problem too, i was told (like you said) its likely to be the idle control valve needing a clean or replacement.
   bloody dangerous though...normally happens when i stop at lights, having that on the moterway, the way i deal with it is restart the engine quickly not good

   dude if your free during the week pop round to mine, and ill whip the diagnostics out on it!!
   im getting them on mine weds night as im putting a new lambda on as mines fooked lol, so you can always pop round if you want and ill have a look to see whats cracking on mate
   
   but could be 1 of 3 main things, icv, tps or engine temp sensor
   
   but looking at your symptoms, im 100% sure its tps sensor, cause your tps is telling ecu the throttle is open say 30degs or 20degs when its not, so the ecu shits its pants and has to let the extra air in else where. which the only place it can let the extra air in is the icv, so thats why you can hear the extra sucking noise, its coming from the icv, so id say that tps may be your prob, try sticking that other spare icv on that you have tomorow night, failing that like i said pop round mine weds

   Same happened to mine, the ICV came off. Plugged it back in and its fine.

   If it goes up to 3k and holds it self steady there its likley to be coolent temp.

   cheers for the input guys. im going to try a icv that i got on another engine and if that doesnt work i will look into other things!
