Important! : ET20 wheels...

  1. #1
Looking into some 15" alloys from a Pug 406. They are ET20 offset and 6.5J width.

Will I be able to get away without using spacers? I assume I can use 195/45/R15 tyres with them?

    Cheers

I don't think you will tbh - will be very very tight !!

I'd just run some 5mm spacers

Balls. They are track wheels so don't really want to use spacers... nor spend money buying them.

There's a few people on 106 Owners who've managed to get away without spacers, hmm.

But what about when you fit some 195/50/15 tyres (most track tyres seem to be this profile) ? They'll rub when near any lock (I suppose not hugely important on track tbh)?

And what about front brake clearance? You running 4 pots?

Would only use road tyres on them mate - was gonna order 4x new 195/45/15 Falkens for them.

    Using 283mm GTI 180 brakes.

    Might be fine then ?

I'm running ET37 wheels with 21mm spacers (so ET16) and I had to put 5mm wider spacers on the rear of mine to clear the inner arch and ARB plate (I have drums so are slightly narrower than a rear disc setup)

So effectively I need to run ET11 wheels on the rear of mine for them not to rub - so even taking into account the different in offset between disc and drum rear, I think the ET20 will be tight.

Front wise my ET16 doesn't rub at all even on full lock - not measured clearance though (with 45 profile tyres). So ET20 might be fine on the front with a 45 profile tyre, aslong as they clear your brakes.

Cheers for your help matey. Not sure whether to take a gamble - supposed to be collecting them tomorrow morning.

I presume they dont have tyres?

As any chance you could fit them and have a quick drive around the block to make sure they fit fine?

If not I'd check they'll fit over the 206 gti180 calipers first - then if they do fine, might be worth a gamble ?

Depends on he price tbh. as if they don't fit without problems you might be able to sell them on for a few £££ profit.

No problem running a 5mm spacer IMO

They don't have any tyres unfortunately dude... checking they clear my brakes is no probs. There's only 3 wheel rims too, but I've spotted a brand new one for sale to complete the set haha.

Looking on 106 Owners, someone is running them with 195/45 R15 tyres on front and 195/50 R15 on rear with no problems.

BTW: these are Pug 406 Ouragans - aka. 15" Nimrod lookalikes.

If people are running them with no probs then worth going for !

They might be slightly narrower allows etc. which may mean they fit fine, or just my thoughts on fitting them was wrong !!

Apologies if I threw a spanner in the works with my replies

I need someone to blame when it all goes wrong - cheers for volunteering.

Been doing a little searching about... 306 Cyclones are ET19 and they seem fine. What's 1mm between friends?

Just before I commit and have these sent off to be refurbed, does this seem about right:

Without tyres on the wheel rims, I can just about get my hand between the edge of the rim and the front struts.

At the rear, I can just about get my hand between the edge of the rim and the ARB end plate/ chassis/ plastic arch liner.

I'm thinking, as long as the tyres don't bulge out much further than the edge of the rim, I should be fine.

I know a lad who uses these with 45 profile rubber on a 106 GTI with no issues. I'm just wondering if certain makes of tyres will be 'wider' and cause me problems.

    Any input appreciated

some tyres have a little bit that protrudes past the edge of the rim to try and protect it if you rub against the curb, but should be fine on there, will be a bloody tight fit though !!

You're not kidding there. I wouldn't care, I had a budget tyre I could have fitted on a wheel rim to try but I slung it.

The lad with the 106 looks to be using Toyos which stick out ever so slightly. There shouldn't be any differences between a 106/ Saxo that would mean they don't clear properly on mine?

Saxo/106 are the same so no worries on that front tbh.

He not fit spacers with his ?

I'd maybe look to run something like 3mm spacers and would be fine I'd say, as I wouldn't want to risk any rubbing

Nah mate, no spacers needed apparently.

Another lad on 106 Owners runs them on his with 195/45 tyres on the front, 195/50 on the rear with no problems. I'm just bricking it incase they rub after spending far too much on them lol.

Just run them for a bit, and then take them off and look for any evidence of rubbing - and go from there !!
