Important! : Spraying my front bumper myself!

  1. #1
I need some advice on whether i should spray my front bumper myself or get it done professional?

ive added up all the costs and it should come to about 25 pounds for 5 cans of a main coat (the bumper is already primed )

and the same for gelcoat finish

    is it worth it ?

Wouldnt myself with such a large area. What colour you doing it.

It won't match colour wise, the finish will be poor and inevitably it will flake off.

    That's the truth

Don't expect good results doing it on the cheap. Never works

remember most of what bodyshops charge is going to be prep work

    sanding priming
    sanding agen
and agen and agen until its totally smooth

im prety good with a spray can so if i was going to do it i would

just make sure that you spend alot of time sanding smoothing it out

    Eg//

    sand with 80 grit first
    then say 200 grit
and so and so forth until your using 1600 grit paper for a smooth finish

the more time you spend smoothing it out the better the finish is going to be,
if you still dont feel confident ask a bodyshop how much it wud be if you did all the prep work and even primered it first i eckon it would be a lot lower as they only ahve to spray the colour and laquer and then rub it down so half the jobs already done for them

hope this makes sense as i have around a thousand things going thru my brain at mo lol

imo, will look as bad as your seat covers if you did it yourself. its nots a straight panel like that fella's possi blue rear bumper he sprayed

do it ya sen pal not that hard tbh

you can get airbrush kits fairly cheap, which you could use again and again if it works out well, i got one for 40 quid and its much neater and more accurate than a spray can, granted still not professional but alot better than a can

I did my front bumper my self and came out alot better than i thought it was going to. just one thing like snakedoc said is just make it as smoth as possible, thats the only regret with doing mine. abit of it is abit rough, but colour's fine and i did it 3 months ago jet washed it and it hasnt flaked yet so..
