Drivers wheel making loud rubbing noise

This week drivers side wheel has been squeaking and sounds like its rubbing on something everytime u turn. Yesterday i took wheel off and found that a bit of the arch lining (nearest engine bay - behind wheel as lukin at it) was slightly bent and burnt where there had been some sort of rubbing - i assumed this was it, stanley knifed the excess off and refitted wheel.

worked! for ten minutes....

Nows its really bad and happens when im going straight and worsens when i turn... yet i cannot to the life of me see where it could be rubbing - car has been lowered for years mk2 2000 vtr - Any help appreciated Thanks, andy

Thanks, I had the bearings replaced not so long ago and the noise is different. as for arch lining I watched my misses turn the wheel and could not see any friction or anything occuring but the noise was stilil there... but definately sounds like rubbing lol... arhhh driving me mad lol
