i have a s reg vtr and the front wipers are playing up. nothing happens when i switch the stalk up one notch, it works in between notches but freezes when switched up one. so i have no intermitent. i have the fast setting and the faster setting but no slow. i have replaced the stalk with 3 others and still have the same problem? think i can rule the stalk out and i wouldn't have thought it woud be the motor as it works on the fast settings! any help?

#3motors getting stuck mate
try spraying wd40 init on a fast setting and it might get it working fully again if not new wiper motor. -
#5lol well ive done it plently of times in my garage on number of cars
sometimes your lucky and it will free-off if not its a new wiper motor
but take the advice or leave it
-
#7i cant possibly see what else it would be tbh.
it just sounds like what your saying
-
#8either the motor jamming, or theres a bad connection on the switch. 90% its your motor sticking, pick one up from scrappy for 10-20quid. easy to change
-
#9if you read the ad, i have changed the stalk 3 times and no difference, ill try changing the motor. i jjust assumed that it either works or not. thanks

#10any other ideas?
-
#11could be the linkage m8

#13help...
-
#14could be faulty stalk / motor but my money is on the stalk being fault as this is what sends the power to the motor telling the motor what to do so should tell the motor to go off in between settings m8
-
#15if you had read the whole thread i have swapped the stalk 3 times and the motor once and made no difference what so ever.
-
#16dos it work when you use the screenwasher, you know when you pull it towards you and it wipes the water off. NO ?

#19Try bashing the wiper motor, if you lift the plastic cover up just enough you should be able to bash it with a piece of wood or a screwdriver. Ive constantly got a long piece of wood in my car for this very reason.
Or put the wipers on full and give both blades a really good tug, but do it at the bottom of the arms and not the actual part that cleans the screen -
#20i have replaced the motor already mateQuote:Try bashing the wiper motor, if you lift the plastic cover up just enough you should be able to bash it with a piece of wood or a screwdriver. Ive constantly got a long piece of wood in my car for this very reason.

#23I have EXACTLY the same problem but i haven't bothered to spend cash 'fixing' things that don't need fixed. If your wipers work on 2nd and 3rd setting, washers spray but no wipe and single wipe setting stalls, the problem is simply the RELAY.
i advise either buying a new one or visiting the scrappies. the wiper relay is the blue one in the passenger side fuse box.
hopefully this helps

#24omfg, i cant believe all these ridiculous replies!! he said the wiper works apart from when its in intermittent (first notch up) theres a RELAY like said about by the fuse box, if yours is working, go in your car, try it, you'll hear the RELAY clicking
-
#25great finally someone with a decent answer. ill try the relay. fingers crossed, did wonder if there was one somewhere. im very hopeful as i cant see what else it can be. thanks guys

#26sorted, the relay was not pushed in enough. all that previous work just to push the relay in lol
