what disks

going to buy some 266mm brakes from local scrapy, my mate did this befor and had to cut the caliper to make them fit once fited the disk wouldt fit, dose anyone no what disks i will need? and is there anything else i will need apart from new calipers disks and pads?

I did my 266 set up this morning pal. Yes you have to grind abit of the carrier. The discs should fit. My 266 brakes came from a Berlingo van.

thts what he took his from but the disks just wouldt fit it was like the caliper was to close or some thing, do you hae any pics mate? how much u pay for calipers? if you dont mynd me asking mate?

What you want pics of pal? Mine fitted fine and seem ok.... going to monitor them. Only paid £20 for the lot but im well in with one of the guys at the local scrappers.

thta or8t mate, myn charges 15/20 per caliper, without disk but i will get some new ones, just of the disk and caliper front front and behind if u cud mate? you tested them yet feel beta?

They seem ok, maybe not as firm as i wanted, but that prob due to the fact i dont have braided hoses on. Click on my project their is a couple of pics of them from today on the last post.

Im ok for discs and pads for now pal. Ill give him a ring tomorrow and see if they have any kicking around they wanna get rid of quickly. I know they had a JP4 cam cover in, same as what ive got on my head too if you interested in one of those? Better too as they have the built in gasket.

i ment braided lines mate? if not will get some from scrapy near me, if i get the caliper off a Berlingo van n just grind it like yours they fit?

You just need to grind of the bit that fouls on the wheel

Yer, soon as you offer them up you will see where you have to grind its just one corner. If ive got a pic ill post it, or ill circle where it is. Nothing major

No no no!!

Early Berlingo's had SOLID 266mm brakes on - you don't want them! They'll be on a BOSCH caliper with a 48mm piston - it'll be smaller and have 48 printed on the top. AVOID. Look for ones from 1.9D and 2.0's to be safe. After 2002 to be even safer! The ones you want have 54 on them

The reason your mates discs didnt fit is there was a changeover around 2001/2002 where the discs were made thicker, with a different offset and the caliper changed from Lucas/1-bolt BOSCH to all 2-bolt BOSCH. My guess is you have a lucas caliper and are trying to fit a newer disc.

The caliper shown ground down above is a lucas one, I've heard more and more frequently that the later BOSCH ones don't need grinding.

I dont know what age my callipers and discs came from but the discs are vented and the callipers are Lucas. Their ok arnt they?

Aye, IIRC all 'lingo's after 2002 had vented discs but before it was only the 1.9/2.0/higher spec ones that had vented 266mm ones.

Yours are fine. Same as 306 XSi/HDi etc. 266mm x 20.5mm, 27mm overall height jobbies

ok cheers for help mate, i have 15's on any so shouldt be a proplem? how much beta are the 266mm brakes then the standard 247mm? in terms of percent? and how much beta would they be with braided lines?

15's will be more than fine.

For testaments about 266mm, use the search button, mine aren't fitted yet but by hell I've done my research about which ones to buy.

I currently have 3 sets of calipers less than 3 feet from me, and have owned 5. Couple that with an account on brakeparts.co.uk and I've had plenty of time to fiddle around and see what the differences are.

However being 3 stud fitting them will be an arse, but will get done eventually.

Personal preference, with 283 they reccomend you chance master cylinder toom, and they carry alot more weight again. Some say their overkill some say their ok. Depends what mods you have up your sleeve id say. If your not going big power then its just a cosmetic thing as the 266 are more than capable of stopping the car nicely

its going to be cammed thottle bodied n preditor ecu on it.... cud just go for the 266mm set up for now, then sell them n buy the 283mm set up n change master cylinder. main reason i wona change these is becoz am used to driving my focus (my daily car) n it has somet stupidid like 320mm and just the brakes are so good, then i drive the saxo and forget how bad they are and nealy crash as i brake at last min like i would in the focus and just dont stop

just fitted a set of 266mm berlingo ones i got off jason (mandyslover) and there shit hot i can lock up the fronts at 15mph lol.
best money ive ever spent on my sax it actually stops now.

cheers mate, how much did you pay for them? top ppl bought my bumper off them. where they already grinded or have to cut them your self ect?

no grinding whatsoever as ive got 15's on fitted perfectly paid 60 quid for discs and calipers with new pads
