#2No simple as

#3cat is just to help put down your emissions, some people even say they have past an MOT without a cat, if you got pulled and failed an emissions test you might get points i dunno, you dont really see the police checking emissions at side of the road
-
#4Police can pull you for excessive 'sound polution' they may say this car is too loud for use or inconsiderate driving, poping the exhaust for example.
-
#5Theres a big crackdown on 'noisy exhausts' where i live. only cautions and £30 fines have been mentioned, no talk of points though.
-
#6Hmm thng is if a cop was behind u ur f**ked arnt you? i mean decats tend to pop when u come off the throttle and it would be pretty impossible for u to prevent this so the nice policeman/women would see and hear this??
Bit of a risk me thinks -
#8mine doesnt unless i make it pop.
-
#9ye? i thought it was a burning off fuel thing that happened when u come of gas? my apology if wrong
tabz -
#10road / noise pollution, is 96dB . . .
plus the 10% they allow for extra noise around the area!
which most cars wont be bothered by, as track limit too is 96 iirc!
and think what noises come out of them!
and as for emmisions... if you were to get stopped by vosa, they could check.
they could take your engine and zorst appart if they had reason to do so...on the side of the road. -
#11no its not true.... u can get a caution/producer to put a cat back on and possibly a fine for volume.... u can allways argue that your cat pipe snapped recently and u bought a de-cat pipe to see u throught till payday. worked for me many a few times. theyl advise you to get one asap is all. if your exhaust volume reaches like 180db then they might make you drive home and not allow vehicle to b on road untill brought back towards 100db or under

#12You can get 3 points on here for using text talk
please read the rules2 users thanked this post: , -
#13its true you don't NEED a cat to pass an mot as long as you can get the emissions down low enough without one. if you got a really arsy copper i suppose they could do you with driving an unroad worthy car, which in effect invalidates your insurance so they could give you points for driving with invalid insurance, but that is highly unlikely
-
#14^ Be a right nob if the rozzers did that
-
#15A cat is a legal requirement on all vehicles registered post 1993, which means if you are pulled without one your car can be classed as unroadworthy.
This carries a maximum penalty of 6 points, so in terms of a simple answer to your question, then yes! -
#16iv got a decat and i havnt had any problems from the police or anything yet, for all they know it could just be a noisey back-box.. i just take it out of gear when i drive past them and hope i can roll till theyre gone. or if i have to just choose a higher gear, mine doesnt make as much noise then.
-
#17Better hope you don't pull you for coasting then...Quote:iv got a decat and i havnt had any problems from the police or anything yet, for all they know it could just be a noisey back-box.. i just take it out of gear when i drive past them and hope i can roll till theyre gone. or if i have to just choose a higher gear, mine doesnt make as much noise then.

#18Coppers aren't going to know whether the car is a de-cat anyway.
-
#20Think he means, A police officer is not going to know where the cat is located on that type of vehicle, as you can suggest it is in the manifold, underneath etc. Or it passed the MOT without one.
You can stop it popping just by pressing the clutch down, instead of braking when slowing down in gear, and also by not ragging it in the higher end of the rev range. -
#22I have a full system on mine with decat and manifold and it doesn't pop back enough to be noticed, nor is it really that loud.
-
#23why dont you just cut the cat open and strip the shit inside of it out, then weld it back together?
Ive recently had exhaust problems, n i got myself a welder, n was just messing about with my old exhaust. its probs about an hours job.
I might be missing the point, but thats the same as a straight pipe right? -
#24mines got a de-cat but car soo low that they wont evan bother to put there head on the ground to look under
but then my car is only loud when im on the accerator hard, which tbh im hardly going fast as the potholes around here are ridiculous

-
#25i have i full de-cat system on my vtr and it is p*ssing loud tbh!
but through my village i cruise 5th with a slight dab of the gas
the only thing ive read recently is the the police are "Cracking down" on noisey cars.
carrying decibel meters to check if you stink past them and they pull you
if its over the sound limit they can give you a £30 on the spot fine.
if you get caught for a second time and it hasnt been changed after a warning its a £300 fine,
basicly just be careful and sensible around the morons. dont ask to be pulled
-
#26Got a full de-cat system with mid silencer and its mint, still boot it while passing the cops driving the other way, by the time they turn around im down the yellow brick road ladys
