I am 17 and have a Citroen Saxo. The cheapest quote i have been able to find is 2500... Its only a 1.1 black saxo forte Any ideas will be veryyyy appreciated! And please - No-one suggest i get pass plus!
  2. #2
do pass pluss got mine down too 1800
  3. #3
I'm 17 with a VTR - Mines £2500 fully comp, so that quote is bullsh*t.
Look around more tbh or get a female on your insurance

Who are you insured with then? maybe i could get a cheaper quote with them!
  6. #6
It's probably where you live tbh.
All post codes are ranked from a to f, f being highest risk, a being lowest risk.
I live in an "e" ranked post code, and when i was 17 insurance on a 1.1 saxo was over 2 grand.
Luckily i managed to get it with a company that saw my postcode as a lower risk, and i got it for 1700.
Then after doing my pass plus it went down to 1200.
edit: this is all third party cover
Also, have you declared modifications? Some companies come down really heavily on young drivers with modifications.

However, i was very lucky to find the company i did, so you'll probably just have to bite the bullet and pay 2 grand+ a year for your first year

Also just noticed its a modified saxo? try playing around with quotes and see how much it is without the modifications-it might be best to remove them.

try quinn. they seem to be the cheapest for most people. other wise try admiral or direct line. and make sure you go third party fire and theft. for some reason around ere third party is more expensive than third party fire and theft.

Go on to go compare.com or get a decent alarm or pass plus are your only real options......
  11. #11
private use only and limited mileage could help but that's has to normally be only 5000 miles a year and depends if your works is 5-10 min walk away.
  12. #12
I find adrian flux the best on a young drivers insurance, plus if you go full member on here you get up to 15% off which if your insurance is showing quite high its a big differance. what mods have you got on the car?
  13. #13
mate my insurance when i was 17 for a 1,1 saxo was 1400 mate!! thats with direct line buddy!!!

    Amen to that brutha'
i live in a dog hole, tried using my mates postcode and it instantly dropped £700 a year, he hardly lives in paradise either..

E ranked area, 18 0Ncb, VTR with mods declared paying £220 a month..ouch lol.. you just gotta take the hit unfortunately thats with my mum and mums friend on the policy too, but with me the named driver on a 10 month bonus accelerator policy

Fuck Me!!!! 2.5k for a 1.1! Thats shit buddy. I feel sorry for you younguns. Insurance is such a rip off nowadays.
My first car was a 1990 AXGT 500 and that only cost me £750 TPFT a year! That was back in 98.
My VTS I have now only costs me £230 a year fully comp. (and that was with 6 points for speeding)

Beware 'pay monthly' options usually the insurer actually just loans you the annual cost and then charges interest at hideous rates on top. So try pay in full, try go gocompare once you've got your overall cheapest price get on the phone and try to haggle some will beat it,
try fully comp if your not trying already, sometimes its cheaper,
last tip is lower your Mileage and up your excess,

cheapest companies for me have been

    direct-line
    adrian flux - current insurance
    quinn direct

    hope this helps
  19. #19
right everythings sorted got insurance down to 2300 which had to do... my mum paid it off fully so i'm paying her monthly, and she doesnt want ANY interest Thanks alot though guys - I'm with Quinn even though i nearly didnt get the cover, only because the guy was Irish and i was Welsh so we both couldnt understans each other!
  20. #20
That is a lot to pay.. but it's better than going onto your parents policy like a lot of people do nowadays
And you earn your own no claims.. it'll go down loads in a year!
  21. #21
ring em up for half a hour n jus chat shit 2 em...9 times outa 10 thell get bored n nock it down... thats what i got told to do...
  22. #22
try more than or adrian flux they are both quite cheap especially with mods
  23. #23
    2300 . . for a 1.1 m8 .. . that seems a bit shitty tbh . you can get vtrs for about that at 17 . ..
  24. #24
Just go on ur mums or dads or some1ns lol
but then again bad way 2 start out as ya dont get any no claims

Also your insurance wont pay out in the event of a claim.
And as you're not technically covered, you can get i think 6 points on your license.
It's very tempting to do.. i remember that when i started driving, on my mums policy it was about 600 quid, but on my own it was 1500.
I started on my mums policy, but when she found out it wasn't legal i had to get my own policy.
I know a lot of people still do it though

Was £1800 on my vtr 52 plate at 17

at 18 and 1 year ncb was 680 cheapest but because of 3 points - 868£ a year

    try admiral

    or ECar

or even direct line or AVIVA as they will beat any quotes
  27. #27
i got insured on my 1.6 16v escort when i was 18 with 0 ncb for £1300 with churchill. i know you 17 but give them a try, expecially if you had a scooter or moped because they count the no claims from that. they dont like modifications tho, thats the only downside but theres ways around that !hope this helps buddy
  28. #28
Try quickfit insurance mate, their pretty cheap and I carnt fault their customer service.

i just got a quote with cover box with my older brother as the main driver 600 quid with 13000 miles free tracker (cobra) fully comp with everything such as hire car break down cover so on and so forth i thought that is a good quote and it gives you the options of how the named driver will be useing the i.e daily jusy commuting so on and so forth ...so technicly it is legal isnt it :/
  39. #39
I have the same problem... 17 year old, but i own a VTR, my insurance works out at 2600 TPFT and live in bradford (enough said) ;D

At first i got quotes for both a vtr and a 1.1, But the VTR worked out only 90 more for the Year
    So chose a vtr
