Strange Whining noise

  1. #1
A few days ago I was driving about 20 mins in my vtr and then a loud sort of whining noise was coming from the car when ever i come off the accelerator. But when i went back on it the noise would disappear. It only seems to be doing it when i drive a fairly good distance. like 20 miles or so. Its done it twice now in the past couple of days.. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

I've got the same noise.. Does it disappear when you press the clutch in? Mines a 1.4 furio though. Does it also get quieter when you slow down?

I've read on here that its either the gear box or drive shafts. Not sure though. One of the lads off here is going to take a look for me.

could be the water pump/timing belt or tensioner they tend to wine mate when on the way out

I cant remember if it goes when i dip the clutch, as soon as i take my foot off the accelerator it stops and yeah it gets more quiet the slower i go and then when i go so slow it wont do it at all. really really confusing.. and thanks ill check these out. hope its not a big problem, car still drives ok though lol.

not a wheel bearing is it?

I thought it could be but if it was it would do it all the time wouldn't it. It only does it after a long distance and then it will stop again after a while. soo strangeeee lol

if wheel bearing get up to speed and put your foot on the clutch or into neutral, if continues then could be. if nto then maybe box or release bearing? Or as anther guy said maybe water pump or tensioner on way out?
